Alright, earlier in the season after we aquired JJ I was one of the hardest on him (and I still stand by my observations then). However, not to make a post and acknowledge the progress he has made over the last six weeks or so would not be right. In 27 games with the Cyclones, he has surpassed his total career stats in 89 games: Season Team GP G A PTS +/- PIM 06-07 Regular Season Idaho Steelheads 12 0 1 1 -4 27 06-07 Regular Season Alaska Aces 4 0 0 0 1 7 2007-08 Regular Season Utah Grizzlies 57 8 3 11 -8 118 2008-09 Regular Season Utah Grizzlies 16 1 0 1 -8 51 2008-09 Regular Season Cincinnati Cyclones 27 9 9 18 -2 131 He is playing much smarter hockey now and seems to be embracing Chucks system. He is becoming a player the other team has to account for both as a scoring threat and as an enforcer. GREAT JOB JJ! (Now, just change your number so your not associated by accident with the OTHER 85 in Cincinnati).

the subject of JJ's play comes up frequently at the coach's shows. chuck repeatedly says that he wants to JJ to play first and fight second. chuck rattled off a list of nhl players to compare the game that he wants JJ to play to, i can't remember those names but i think a good comparison would be darren mccarty. when JJ got here he had to prove to his teammates that he could throw down when necessary and that he'd have their backs regardless. yes, that lead to some stupid penalties, but once that was established he has settled down quite well. he's learning the right times to fight and the right people to fight. i recall the coach's show after a recent dayton game (the one when mckenzie got clocked) and chuck mentioned that JJ came to the bench saying that maslonka wanted to fight. chuck simply explained that trading JJ (who can play) for maslonka (who can't play) was not a fair trade and to pass. a few shifts later when lined up for a face off d'amour was chirping at JJ, chuck said JJ actually looked to the bench to see if it was ok and since taking d'amour off the ice is definitely a fair trade for JJ, chuck gave him the go ahead.
JJ is finally on a team where he is being given the chance to play hockey. his hands are better than people give him credit for, when he has space to get his shot off he has proven he can bury it, and while he may not be the most fleet of foot he's strong and knows how to use his body to protect the puck. |

| Jj has found a good home with a coach that can actually control him and he seems happy. I say its good to have an enforcer who plays smart and that's what JJ has become. |

I too will stand up and admit JJ is playing better than I could have ever thought. That being said, I would also like to see the game when a 10 minute penalty would really hurt us,he realizes this, and skates away from a fight. With us being short- handed,10 minutes off the ice means all the other forwards will have to cover until he is out.Tired skaters result in turnovers, blown coverages and even injuries.Bottom line- JJ is needed to keep the other teams honest but is also needed to hold up his shifts and not make someone else cover his time. |

| I've never had a problem with this guy. I'm glad to see him step up offensively to quiet the crowd of non-believers. His hard work alone on every shift has won me over. |
