From the way it sounded on the radio, the period ended while McElroy was in the box for an earlier penalty. There was a big dust-up on the ice at the end of the period and the off-ice officials opened up the box, assuming McElroy would be heading to the locker room. Apparently McElroy saw what was happening on the ice and joined the fray, and thus they got him for leaving the penalty bench..

At least that's the way Hamel described it.

My guess is TJ will be facing at least a one game suspension for this.Just like
JJ's one a few weeks ago,we will disagree but the league is still going to hit
us on this.

will it make a difference if TJ opened the door or if the official did? Would that make a difference in a suspension or not? Just that we waited so long for him to return, we need him on the ice for Johnstown.

The way Hamel was talking about it, the off-ice officials were complicit in what happened, but the fact remains that McElroy joined in the fracas while serving his penalty. End of the period or not, he's still responsible. We can probably argue these points all we want, but I doubt the league will find itself at fault.

If Reading's off-ice officials are anything like ours, they don't know what happened, or won't remember, or maybe they "thought" it was ok to open the door.

I agree that TJ should know better. He did get involved in the fight so the game misconduct I can understand. I just have to hope for so suspension.

What I don't understand is how can they get him for
the same penalty twice? They gave him 2 for leaving the Box
and then a gamer for leaving the box WTF someone help me figure this
out please. Or did I read that wrong and he got the major for
leaving the box and fighting when he still had time on the 1st penalty
and then got the 2 mins for just leaving the box early? I think that's it. If not let me know

I think this is complete BS... The period was over. Reading started all this crap down by our goal for no reason other than the fact that we scored twice that period.

O'Hanley, Coghlan and Ehgoetz were down there in individual little tiffs then a couple of Royals ganged up on Eggo and his helmet came off, etc. The OIO let TJ out of the box and he went down and got between Eggo and the Reading guys, nothing unusual, just some shoving and some choice words. Then Stamoulis grabs TJ's stick, they wrestle with that for a few seconds and he pulls it out of TJ's hands. So now Stamoulis is standing there with two sticks. He doesn't drop either one, he just stands there holding both sticks and daring TJ to come after him. TJ obliges and DESTROYS this guy. It was awesome to watch. LOL

I get that the game misconduct was for leaving the penalty box. But there's no way that he wasn't going to go down there and defend his teammates. No player would just skate off ice while all that crap was going on. Why would the officials open the box and let him out if he was going to get a penalty for it because there was still stuff going on out on the ice, even if the period was technically over? He got two penalties, one for leaving the penalty box and one for fighting. I understand the fighting... But can you really give him the misconduct for leaving the box after the period was technically over and the OIO let him out? Granted, you can argue that TJ "should have known better" and just went to the locker room. We all know that wasn't going to happen. And I for one am ok that he didn't. It sucked not having him for the rest of the game, but we still did ok.

What you do today can change the course of your life far into the future. Today is critical. Today really counts.
