OMG!!!! What a nailbiter game!!!!!!!!
Secured home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Clinched no worse than 2nd place in the division.

Nie was shaky in periods one and two,but looked like he got in sync in the third period. We know Loic is ready for game one in the playoffs and with Johnstown hitting Nie at least 5 times-I say use Nie tomorrow and Loic in game one of playoffs. |

What a gutty performance. I thought they were outplayed in the first two periods. J-town was giving it their all tonight. We played so-so, and still had enough for the win. Good to see Killer back on the ice. One more win = one more banner!!
Sullivan needs an eye exam. I have no clue what he was watching, but sure wasn't the same game I was watching. What an A$$. |

Looks to me like if Wheeling can at least make it to overtime over Trenton they would beat Johnstown out via the tie breaker. Based on the tie breakers, etc, I don't see any way we would play Johnstown in the first round of the playoffs. A Trenton win and Johnstown win faces them off. A Cincinnati win or Wheeling going to OT would eliminate Johnstown.

sullivan has his eyes glued to the puck and he misses infractions happening a split second behind the play. he also made his fair share of make-up calls. the echl officiating is what it is and that is usually terrible; we should know this by now....
glad to see the boys pull out the win and clinch at least 1 rounds worth of home ice. j-town played like i expected them too and that was like i team with their backs against the wall. if i'm correct the point by j-town might play into our favor because the 1 point means they still have a shot at the playoffs and will come out tomorrow to play hockey and not to just goon it up. i expect a physical game from them, but nothing overtly cheap. had we knocked them out of playoff contention i would fully expect the type of goon line brawls that we saw from them late last season after we had clinched. they still have something to play for and sitting in the box won't help them with that....i expect another playoff type game.... |

I don't fault Nie for the first or last goal (I missed the second). The first, a power play goal, the defense left Knight standing right in the center of the goal two feet away for about a full minute until they eventually fed it to him. The third (also on the power play) was a borderline breakaway.
I was more upset that, if I recall correctly, we put up a whopping 5 SOG after the first 4 power plays. I don't think I've ever seen so many clears on those first few power plays. Thankfully get got it to together and Van Guilder and Syro continue to light it up. |

| cyclonehole, the second goal that Nie gave up went through the middle of his pads. It didn't appear to be a hard shot. |

The team was not really connecting on offense or defense during the first 2 periods. Nie was hung out to dry by the team on several occasions but then he also got caught out of position several times and somehow escaped. Overall it was a good job by Nie but I would like to tie him to that net so he will stop wondering all over the ice.
I would love to know what Chuck said to the team during the second intermission because they came out super motivated in the third. Then again I may be over critical because we did came from behind 3 times tonight.
In any case, I like the never say die attitude I have seen the last several games. Hopefully they can carry it into the playoff. |

| About Sullivan, what rule book was he reading the left out goaltender interference. I thought Poochie was really bad but Sulli appears to be even worse. |

Yeah, like I said I didn't see that one. I didn't think he was perfect tonight but I thought he played a strong game. It has appeared to me, especially over the past few weeks, that people have been praising Lacasse through the roof, and rightfully so, because he has been great, and everyone jumped all over Nie the night he had a truly awful game and was pulled. As many people now I have been a huge Nie guy most of the season, I think a lot of people have forgotten that Nie was pretty much as good as any goalie I think we've ever had the first 10 games or so he came here, and he was bound to have the occasional clunker when carrying the bulk of so many games as the #1 guy. I realize Loic is a fan favorite, and I recently admitted I think they're about equal at this point, it just seems like people are quick to jump on Nie every game now for every goal he gives up while not so much for Lacasse. Calling it completely fair tonight, I didn't think the first or last were his fault and overall he played a good game. As I said, the part that worried me was the 5 shots on goal after four power plays. |

I hope you didn't get me wrong here. I am in agreement with you about Nie. I've supported both him and Loic because I think they are both good goaltenders. About Gajewski, I'm not sure because the most recent times he played for us, our defense wasn't exactly decent. I'm not beating up Nie on my post, because at times I have seen the defense leaving Nie, Moule, Gajewski and Lacasse out to dry. So what happened happened, Nie played well tonight and helped give us a win. Congratulations Nie! Keep up the good work. |

Cyclonehole is looking very sage as Syro keeps coming up large game after game.
8 shots in two periods and still a W? Wow. If we could ever become somewhat competent on 2 on 1's, then this team might make a run at it all. Twice, Eghoetz tried to pass to Van Guilder and gave up clear scoring opportunities. I hope that my suggestion to him (Shoot the gd puck Ehgoetz!!!) sinks in.
As Cincinnati Fan pointed out, this team seems to have developed a very strong win ethic. The last 3 weeks have been an intense pressure cooker and they have been more than up to the task. The team has valiantly responded to the challenges which they have faced.
One more to go for the Division. Johnstown will give its all as a win could give them the final playoff berth.
I'll guess that Loic will get the start in the regular season finale. |
