With next year looking like ALL west teams will make the playoffs if they keep the 8 West-8 East format,does it lose the hype to say you made the playoffs! We have teams that will go home with better records while they are only playing for home-field advantage. Any thoughts?
I honestly wonder if they will have a sixteen team playoff format. I'm not sure how else they could work it, but if one team folds (which we've all seen happen) that would really upset the apple cart. I would hate to see teams clinch the post season before the puck is even dropped.

i would imagine that if things stay the way they are they would have to go back to the old system with 1st round byes for the top 3 teams in each division with the 4th and 5th place teams playing a 3 game series. there would still be a team or 2 left out but it certainly makes things a bit more fair. i have to agree that there isn't much point in keeping the system the way it is if every team in one conference goes to the playoffs and the teams in the other actually have to grind it out for 72 games; the teams out west will basically be playing a 72 game exhibition schedule...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if every team in a division would go to the playoffs they would still fight for the Division crown in regular season for home ice in the Divisional Playoffs.
