I'm with you. I haven't been very impressed with Quesnele's play and Gerard Miller's play has been on again/off again. The value of having MacDonald, who has played the majority of the past two regular seasons in the AHL and who helped the Cyclones win the Kelly Cup here last season, cannot be underestimated.

I'll never forget MacDonald's hit on Keely Czuy last year in game 6 of the finals. He sent him off to rehab for the off season. If he brings that type of physical presence to the game, then the smallish Wheeling forwards had better not skate with their heads down

My thoughts exactly, I figure he'll bring much needed physical and experienced play to the table to help prevent those wheeling odd man fast breaks.

quesnelle is about the only defensemen we have that can skate the puck out of the zone. miller tries but has usually fails, in fact miller has been lacking in all areas of his game. having macdonald back has the potential to help in the physical game, if he can actually manage to hit someone; he's like a scud missile, when he hit's his target he does some damage, but more often than not he misses terribly. besides as long as woll, and jj continue skating around antagonizing the piss out of anyone in a nailers sweater i'd rather macdonald just play defense, provided he learned how in his time in portland. i really hope he surprises me...

Damn mike, way to rip him a new one. I would assume his game had improved since he spent 55 games in the A this year. However, I will say this, most of this team hits like scud missiles...They miss frequently

before he got called up i witnessed too many guys skate right around him and generate scoring chances. last year conrad martin spent a prolonged stint with hamilton and came back better than he left, and he was strong to begin with. if matt made the same kind of strides that conrad did last season, when he got called up, i expect to see a vastly improved matt macdonald. people out there say that matt macdonald has ahl ability and now that he's back i really hope to see it.

When MacDonald was here earlier in the season, I thought that his play suffered due to the fact that he was trying to do too much. The defense was a joke early on and when combined with the sieve (Gastinkski) in net, Macker was trying to cover for other guys, move the puck out of the zone all by himself and score goals (and ended up creating odd-man rushes against us). When a player tries to do too much he usually ends up doing nothing at all very well. Portland obviously felt good enough about him to call him up and up he stayed.

Last night, MacDonald showed me why he was in the AHL. His coverage of his man was outstanding and he was very solid in getting the puck out of the zone. With the guys sitting out (Couglin and McElroy), MacDonald's presence was a huge one last night.
