The Bulldogs lost their first round series to Grand Rapids 4 games to 2 Sunday night.

Desharnais tied for Hamilton's leading playoff scorer with 4 points (1g 3a). Hardly worthy of a ticker tape parade, but for a rookie to be as productive as anyone else on the team, it is sigificant.

Cedrick did an exceptional job facilitating quick line changes by opening and closing the bench door with a dexterity rarely seen at the AHL level. He did not play

On a brighter note, JM Daoust is tied for the lead among Wilkes-Barre players at the end of their successful first round series. JM notched 7 points (3g 4a). The Baby Pens play arch-rival Hershey in the divisional finals.

Hamilton's failure to advance as well as Montreal's horrific second half collapse and post season flop (swept in 4 by the Bruins) leaves more questions than answers about the Montreal/Hamilton organizations for next season.

Montreal GM Bob Gainey, who fired Guy Charbonneau about a month ago and took over the reins behind the bench himself, is certainly on the hot seat in Montreal. Don Lever, the Hamilton coach who was brought in by Gainey to be an asst. coach with the Canadiens, had been rumored to be the leading candidate to take over the head coaching position next season. However, if Gainey is fired, then all bets are off regarding this possibility.

Ron Wilson, who took over Hamilton after Lever was promoted, failed to get his team past the first playoff round. Wilson had been a head coach before (many years ago), but prior to his promotion this season, had appeared to be an assistant coach "lifer".

How this impacts Cyclone Coach Chuck Weber's future in the Montreal organization isn't known. One would think that if Wilson is adjudged be inadequate as a head coach and if Lever doesn't return to the Bulldogs, then Weber would have to be among the leading-if not the leading-candidates to assume the Hamilton position.

A second consecutive Kelly Cup would almost automatically make Weber a shoe-in to be an AHL head coach next season whether that be in Hamilton or elsewhere.

"The only way David Desharnais will see an NHL game is if he buys a ticket".
