I was having this conversation with some people after the game last night. That is, who would you like to see come back?

1. Loic Lacasse- He has 4 solid goalies above him in Hamilton and Montreal, so the only way I see him making a permanent move up is if one of those 4 is traded, retires(Denis possibly?), or is released.

2. Barret Ehgoetz - Great team leader and an outstanding player. Also used to the name here in Cincinnati so I would love for him to come back.

3. Chico - Although it wasn't his best season ever, he still helped a lot. The problem is, with the surgeries coming up, I fear he'll hang up the skates for good.

4. Paul Lynch - He may not've played a ton of games with the team, but when he was in there he played hard and with a ton of heart. It was unfortunate that an injury caused his demise for the season.

5. Dustin Sproat - Great offensive ability, a fast skate, and off the ice a super nice guy. His work on the ice helped us a lot this year when we needed it.

6. Justin Johnson - Love or hate him, he impressed me this year. His ability to get in the other teams head, stand up for his teammates and even score the occasional goal or 2 made him out to be a pretty versatile guy.

7. Mike Salekin - Tough guy with a big heart. He, like JJ really stood up for teammates when needed and the guy was a solid D man who really stepped up offensively when needed as well.

8. Felix Petit - I saw him as another JM/Olivier in a way just because of his size, and the way he skated. He produced big in the PO's and I wanna see what he could do during the whole season.

9. Mac Faulkner - We got the guy from a team that wasn't doing well. I saw his +/- and hit myself, but the guy showed he had heard, a big body, some fast legs for his size, and he could score. It would be great to get at least one big man back from this year and realistically I think he may be one.

10. Jamie Coghlan - It sucked that we had to lose him in the POs but the guy played really hard, very physical and played very solid D. Having a few solid Defensive players would really help next season.

These are the realistic ones, a few more I would say are Quesnele, Woll, and O' Hanley.

Other than these I don't see anyone coming back that was sent down from the AHL for the POs.

Not only who you would like to see back, but what do you think is the weakness that needs to be addressed? Also remember that Dayton, Mississippi, and Phoenix aren't back for next season. Those players on those teams are now free agents. So who would you like to see here next year?

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well, I'm sure that I'm in the minority but, I'd like to see NONE of these guys back. Before you jump all over me, let me explain why.

This is Minor League Hockey- I believe in call ups. In the ECHL you live and die by the call up. I think Coach Weber has made enough of a name for himself that he will be coaching somewhere in the AHL next season. That being said...
GREAT POST- and I'll respond how I feel about these guys that you've posted ;)

1. Loic Lacasse- will start the season here next year, if he's not traded or Denis doesn't finally retire. (Denis did not have a GREAT playoff run this season for Hamilton going 2-4 with .890 saves % 3.34 GAA-could be Ceddy's year to start next year-maybe)

2. Barret Ehgoetz- this guy hustles. He's been a solid leader for this club but he could contribute on a couple of AHL teams. He had 64 pts this year, and 11pts in 15 games in the playoffs (same he had in 22 games last year)

3. Chico- If he's playing next year, it will be here or somewhere in Europe because the checks are better over there. I wish him the best, just a run of bad 'physical' luck.

4. Paul Lynch- Don't you think he'll be in the AHL camp next season? I'm not sure they saw enough of him before his injury. If he's healthy, he's a solid player.

5. Dustin Sproat- He's FAST...but needs to work on puck control and passing. If he's not here with the Clones next season, he will be somewhere else in the ECHL. 15 playoff points in 15 games is a good showing for a player that has never been to the playoffs before. Good for him.

6. Justin Johnson- LOVE when he's got his head on straight- HATE when he takes the stupid penalty. He had 208 PIM with us this year...That's A LOT of MINUTES to be in the box. If he's back here its because the coaching staff feels that they need a physical presence to keep this team intact.

7. Mike Salekin- I know that D-men aren't all about points...but he didn't have a single point in the playoffs this season in 11 outings. He was PLUS 1 though ;) He can stay or go in my mind, I just wasn't as impressed with him as some others.

8. Felix Petit- Will be here next year- he's had four seasons in Juniors, he should be in the ECHL next year. He wasn't here long enough to get a good look at him but, he could be a solid contributor in the future.

9. Mac Faulkner- 9 AHL games in his career=0 points. He was here for 27 games (w/playoffs) His +- during regular season was 0 *as a Cyclone ;) Even is okay with me but, this guy seems like a career ECHLer. While I appreciate the Journeyman, I also like seeing young talent get their shot at the big time.

10. Jamie Coghlan- a defensemen that was PLUS 11!!! :) It would be great for the Clones if he stayed...5 points in 41 games is a little low but I LOVE the plus minus.

**********
Overall, Coach Weber put a team together that we can be proud of. In OCTOBER everyone was freaking out- and felt like we were on a sinking ship. There will be quite a few returning players this season, and I believe that a number of the guys that were sent down from the AHL for the PO's hurt the chemistry of the team-even if no one else is willing to say it. *Part of being affiliated*

GREAT POST! XcloneiacX made me think through some things ;)

XcloneiacX, you read my mind from last night. As soon as the horn blew, I started wondering, "who on the ice will we (or wont we) see next year?"

To be quite honest....I think that given we dont have the miracle, God-ly talanted guys of 07-08, and we're not going to be devastated by players moving up, we could very well see all but 5-6 players return.

You gotta take into play those that will want to move to California to live closer to their girlfriends (wont name any names, but hey, glad Ontario went SOOOOOO far in playoffs -ooops that gives it away). You also have those that will try Europe, some may retire (Syro, but I hope not, he's still got hockey left in him, maybe Barrett???)

So many things can happen this summer, and its what I love about hockey....You have so much antisipation and urge to check the site for roster updates, possibly a uniform change (im all for bringing a new style in) etc....

I think this season brought us down from cloud 9, into reality, and will allow CWeb and Stork to put together 1 final push for another Kelly Cup before Coach gets his promotion, and Stork gets his shot at the helm.

HockeyGod, you had so many great points, I'll just say that off the top. However, I would like to disagree with you on the overall point of NONE or not many returning for next year. Your review makes several great points about the players named, however, these guys are in the E so that they can IMPROVE on those things. At the A level, you'd better have the kinks worked out to stay, know what Im saying?

So, we got Sproat, Coghlan, O'Hanley, and maybe someone else, all from when Fresno folded. You'd think from what the above post stated, that there will be many, MANY possible additions to consider from the 3 teams (well, we'll pass on any Dayton players - including Reject-Cyclone Greg "Traitor" Labenski) so we may be able to pick some guys up.

However, your final point just doesnt stick with me. You honestly think that by adding Kyle Rank, Matt Macdonald, Ian Mckenzie to our squad didnt help??? I mean, I know what your trying to say, but look at it this way - they are experienced, leader-material style of guys that played here with some of the guys last year, and that can only help in the locker room when push comes to shove.

Had he gotten those three back 2 months, or even 1 month ago, I know the "chemistry" would have been better, but all these guys are professionals, and adjusting to new guys was this teams specialty this year, so I dont think "chemistry" was a problem.

What was it, 56 different players this year? Geez...I hope we can lower that and keep a stable roster next year.

Either way......Love my Cyclones, cant wait for the first Roster moves to start being announced!

I just started a completely new topic by mentioning the uniform change idea there, so now I wanna chime in on that.

Any ideas? Would it be possible to keep Twister in a new logo, cause I dont wanna lose the same logo we've basically had for what, 15 years??? (94-95)

Is there some kind of way to start a community involvment on drawing/sketching ideas for new logo's, or jersey ideas?

I think this could go somewhere, as the league always puts Cincy as one of the lower end teams, uniform-style wise, and I wonder what a change may do. I think our jerseys are pretty cool, but apparently the rest of the league disagrees. Gotta be better than this though:
_____ ____
________
D
A
Y
T
O
N
________________

That jersey had so much thought into it, I thought awards would be given out! LOL

Rumor has it that there will be an new black jersey that will be debuted after the uniform change over in January. It is supposed to be completely different than what we have worn in the past.

Protected lists are due to the ECHL on 6/1. The protected list ONLY applies to non-affiliated players. Only eight players can be protected and only four can be veterans (more than 4 years pro experience). The Coach Weber era Cyclones to my knowledge have NEVER listed a veteran on the protected list. Now that that has been said, my list in no particular order:

Sproat, Dietrich, Petit, Quesnele, Kilpatrick, Van Guilder, McElroy, O' Hanley

Van Guilder and Kilpatrick may be left off if AHL deals are in the works. I hope Sproat comes back but with his job situation he may move on to the oil fields. In that case add Salekin, Woll and Miller/Coghlan

I would love to see both Barret Eghoetz and Mac Faulkner come back, and they very well may but I doubt they will be protected as they have reached veteran status. I hope Matt Syroczynski comes back to us but injury wise and the false start at start of this year may be weighing on him; I couldn't fault him for retiring. I'd also like to see Paul Lynch get another shot not limited by injury.

Only time will tell !

Everyones points are interesting and well taken. Personnally, as long as Coach Weber is back I really don't care about the roster. We all know what he can do and his ability to find the best talent. He has a supportive ownership and a great relationship with the teams affiliates. To me that is nothing but a recipe for success.

I truthfully love the jersey design and the only other design I wanna see is Mr. Cyclone again and thats it.

As far as 1 thing I saw, putting Miller on the protected list, after his performance during the PO's I say no go. I feel as if he was shotty and only had his spurs or brilliance.

Personal opinion, but the guy is a great guy off the ice and that does make me want him to stay here in a way.

As far as the logo goes-either bring back the original or leave it
alone. I wouldn't mind seeing a new yellow version to go with the
red and the white. I'm not a big fan of the black version of now.
As for the returning players,Justin Johnson is an interesting story.
With him, I feel like refs treat us like a goon squad and we don't
get the calls like we did last year. Granted he cleaned his act up,
but the "staged looking fight" in game three doesn't help.I hate when
players shadow box for thirty seconds. To me, a real hockey fight is
gloves on and right away scrapping.Next year I don't expect Coach
Weber to be back(somewhere in the AHL).At best,I'm hoping this will
be Coach Stork's team and maybe Don Biggs as assistant coach.

Good luck with Biggs.

I see him every so often at work (I work in the Sports Plus Pro Shop) and he is heavily established with the Steam organization and I don't think he plans on leaving from the enthusiasm he always has for the team.

100% Correct cloneinator!

We all must keep in mind the draft picks we may receive or not.
My 8 picks are as follows; Mac Faulkner, Brian O'Hanley, Barret Ehgoetz, Jacob Dietrich, Dustin Sproat, Mark Van Guilder, Felix Petit Mike Salekin.

To summarize ( from the playoff roster) My opinion on roster moves,

Ryan Nie - resign
Loic Lacasse - Gone to AHL to back up Ceddy
Mac Faulkner - resign
Frederic St.Denis - Gone to AHL
Jason Woll - Released
Brian O'Hanley - resign
T.J. McElroy - released
Jimmy Kilpatrick - resign, may loose to AHL
Barret Ehgoetz - resign
Mike Quesnele - released
Mark Santorelli - Gone to AHL
Jacob Dietrich - resign
Matt Syroczynski - retired
Gerard Miller - released
Dustin Sproat - resign
Mark Van Guilder - resign
Jamie Coghlan - resign
Ian McKenzie - Gone to AHL
Felix Petit - resign
Matt Macdonald - released
Mike Salekin - resign
Kyle Rank - resign
Justin Johnson - resign

Head Coach - Chuck Weber
Assistant Coach - Dean Stork

All others on IR to be released.

That is based on my personal feelings. Some of you may agree or not. I welcome opinions. Most of all I am looking forward to next season. I am already counting the days! The reason for my good feelings is after last season ( HOW SWEET IT WAS! ) The inevitable was bound to happen, call ups! As deserving as that team was, it doomed this years team. AHL picked our team apart, and it showed. The lack of cohesiveness through out this team all year long.It is amazing to me that we even won the devision. That shows how good this coaching staff is, never give up on them. With all that being said, I believe this years team will be much better. Our affiates for the most part, will leave us alone. Coach Weber still needs some more time to develope some more players talents before making the move to AHL ranks. With Coach Weber staying I predict playoffs again. With a whole different outcome.

2008 Kelly cup champs, the best Cyclones team ever!

1. I talked to several players after the game Friday and a lot of them said they want to be here or in a higher league. A few even said they wouldn't play anywhere else if it were up to them. I think the guys like it here. Chico will be here thru the summer for surgeries he told me and a few others will be here for a while as well. I hope we keep as many as possible and add a lil more speed and we'll be dangerous next year. Loic may be backing up Ceddy next year. All in all, I'll take what they give me. After all, it's HOCKEY!!!!

2. Logo stays...PERIOD

3. Biggs? With the Steam taking over the Cyclones youth organization (so I hear from a former Cyclone player whos kid plays) Biggs may not be available. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Chuck will only leave for a great opportunity. I think he has it great here and won't leave unless he get one helluva an offer.

The Steam is not taking over the Cyclones youth organization. They are starting there own organization and both will be playing this coming year. This is due to a lot of stuff not important on here. Youth sports is so political!! I do not think you will see Biggs as the coach, becasue he is as you pointed out very involved in the Steam.
