Kalamazoo Wings sign goalie Ryan Nie by Pam Shebest | Kalamazoo Gazette Tuesday August 18, 2009, 3:09 PM PORTAGE --- Goaltender Ryan Nie, who led the Kalamazoo Wings to the UHL Colonial Cup finals in 2006-07, will be back wearing his familiar jersey No. 34 after signing with Kalamazoo Wings.
Nie was introduced at a press conference Tuesday afternoon at Culver's in Portage and, when his name was announced, fans gave a rousing cheer with prolonged clapping.
One bonus for Nie is that he has been given a free-agent tryout with the NHL San Jose Sharks, a parent club of the K-Wings, in their training camp.
Said Nie, who spent the last two years playing in the ECHL with four different teams, "It was a no-brainer for me, given the opportunity to come back to an organization I love."
Said K-Wings coach Nick Bootland: "He brings character on and off the ice and he is a leader on the ice. He is a proven goaltender that can only make our team better."

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

| no quality free agent goalie will sign with a team that has 2 affiliates. with each affiliate assigning a goalie here that leaves no room for a free agent goalie. yeah it sucks if we end up in a situation like last year but it is the way it is people. deal with it. |

Good for Ryan getting into a club he likes and getting a chance like that with the San Jose training camp.
Sucky though because I really liked him and he helped immensely bringing us out of that funk/slump we had last year. But like elvis said, we're never going to get our choice of goalies while we have two affiliates. All we can hope for is that those parent teams have awesome quantities of goaltending talent that can trickle down and benefit us. |

Hopefully we will get some decent goalies from the parent clubs but my first reaction was that this sucks.
I do wish Ryan luck (except when he plays us). |

Unfortunate as Nie played very well for the Cyclones. It may have been a coincidence but his presence also helped Loic Lacasse's game. Like the article says it seems Nie had a good presence on the bench.
Like one of the posts above indicated to, that it's understandable Nie made this decision as hr had no real place in Cincinnati. It seems very likely the Cyclone goalie tandem will be Robert Mayer from the Montreal organization and Jeremy Smith from the Nashville organization. |

They waited this long to report it??? Or did that rivalry just extend into an all-summer-long preseason warm-up!?!?!? LOL
Either way......think about it....Nick Bootland is there coach...not much "mature" leadership there. |
