Cincinnati leveled the scores at one each when rookie Matt Pierce slipped his first pro goal past Elmira goalie Michael Teslak. Pierces shot came from the left side of the net as rookies Mark Voakes and Kevin Roeder added the helpers. The Jackals took the lead heading into the first break as Chanse Fitzpatrick picked up a loose puck on the right halfwall and worked to the front of the net, picked up the rebound and fired it from the left side of the net past Mayer. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 10-9, in the opening stanza.

The Jackals extended the lead to 3-1 at 36 seconds of the middle frame when Chaz Johnson finished off a two-on-one break with Justin Donati. Tyler Donati added the other assist. Cincinnati closed the gap to 3-2 at 4:59 of the period when Mike McLean stole a pass and snapped a shot just inside the right post, unassisted.

The Jackals added two more goals in the third period as Gratchev scored 12:35 into the period for his second of the night while Svendsen collected his first at 17:44. Elmira won the shots battle again in the third stanza, 9-6, and held the lead for the night, 30-23.
