ok, i know everyone likes dollar anything...am i right? but when you only do something that is targeted for people who only show up for that reason...it pisses me off (yes boys and girls its time for a rant). now, can anyone tell me why we have only dollar beer nights??? i know beer is the main reason the bandwagon fans show up just to get cheap booze, but there are several of us that go to the games to ACTUALLY WATCH THE GAME! and that dont and/or cant drink beer and are forced to fork over 3.50 for a d**n bottle of Pepsi! i mean hell, you can get a bottle in a UDF for like 1.25...and yes i know the arena would lose money if they did a dollar bottled Pepsi night, but still it would be nice to have pepsi cheap...someone tell the person who is charge of these promo ideas to throw one of these in and who knows...maybe it will work, i know i would appreciate it...wouldnt you? |

I understand your desire for the cheaper soda, I am a fan than attends the games regardless of the promo( i do enjoy dollar beers though) However i enjoy the games more so, and if the dollar beers bring the "one timers" or bandwagon fans or lovers of cheap beer.....the fact still remains they purchased tickets and filled seats, thus helping to ensure continued hockey in our city....which is ultimately the goal. Look at the promo schedule, there is no doubt as to what promotion the club feels puts bodies in seats. |

the way i see it is you are right, it does put people in the stands but its discrimination towards us who choose not to and/or cant drink beer. |

While both of you have valid points, i do think there is one thing they could do for another promotion. If they did $1 fountain drinks, they would still make money. I rarely ever buy drinks (other than discount beer) simply because its too much.
We all know that the $1/$2 beer night bring in alot of people or they would have those promotions on 3 weeknight days, but it would be nice if they added in $1 fountain drinks, even if it was 16/20/24oz and not the mega size ones. |

Did you know that the $3.50 bottle of Pepsi is probably sold to the arena for around 80 cents? They could do some thing for those of us who do not drink beer. But I also agree that if it helps bring people down to the arena and it keeps the team in town I understand why they do it. Just would be nice to have cheap soda once in a while as well.

I'm pretty sure it involves new fans. I think if anything, they should keep $1 Beer but also add the $1 fountain drinks so they can keep promoting the $1 Beers.

There SHOULD be both, no doubt about it. By having $1 soda to go along with the beer, they're not losing a single thing by inviting the bandwagon fans. They still get exactly what they came for. Furthermore, while the $1 beer nights do bring out an extra few, it's not like they're filling the place ... most weeknight crowds are still in the 1000s.
And perhaps the stupidest thing is that they of course GOT the idea for Thirsty Thursdays, etc. from the Florence Freedom, and they have always done both beer and soda. The Cyclones have always thrived to be this "family friendly entertainment", Wildman announcing at the end of games "come back Thursday and find a sitter" is not that way. |

Everyone has made some very good statements. My thoughts are that if all of the season ticket holders that DON'T partake in $1 beer nights should contact their individual ticket rep. Maybe if enough of us complain about the lack of cheaper priced soft drinks, they would get a clue. I know that it's probably to much to ask for this type of promotion every time, but how about once a month (and that's at a maximum). I also happen to know one of the beer vendors & he really doesn't like it when there's $1 beer nights. |

I have complained about this in the past but I am very willing to do it again. Somebody above said it costs the arena 80 cents for a 20 ounce bottle of Pepsi and while I can't say for sure, I suspect they could greatly beat that price. In any case (no pun intended), the better comparison would be 12 ounce cans. It is not that uncommon for consumers to get a 24 pack of Pepsi on sale for $6 but for the sake of discussion let's assume USBA had to pay $8 for a 24 pack. That would be 33.3 cents per can. I realize there are additional costs for sales personnel etc but a 12 ounce can for $1 shouldn't be a losing proposition. I have no real objections to beer but let's give the non-drinkers the same break.
Lets take it a step further. I don't know about the rest of you but when I go to a weekday game, I don't have time to eat prior to going to the arena. $1 hot dogs and $1 cans of soft drinks for each weekday game would make me much more inclined to go to the game instead of listening to the game while eating dinner at home. How many other people feel the same? |

I know in Kalamazoo (yes, an enemy fan on your forum! Duck and cover!) we do $1 nights with beer and hot dogs together.
In fact on Friday Nov. 13th when the Cyclones come to town, that'll be the first $1 Beer/Dog Night of the season.
To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of $1 Beer nights at all because of the crowd and problems it can attract (though part of that was with visiting IHL fans -- FORT WAYNE I'm looking at some of yours -- in the past), but the $1 dogs honestly offset it a bit and discourage the hardcore drinkers from making too many trips to the concessions to wait in line because people are there waiting on $1 dogs then as well (even though the dogs are supposed to make people more thirsty).

Primis, we have several fans from around the league on our forum...welcome to Section 60, all hockey fans are welcome here...and on the subject of the dollar pop, i have a long talk with one of the ladies working at the food counter and she said its easier to bring in a sealed bottle of pepsi, but i say we start a something to get our dollar pop |

Dollar pop won't attract one person to a game.
Last night's game showed the value of $1 beers. Even though the crowd was small (1660-looked bigger to me), there was a very high percentage of college age kids there.
With the price of beer, $1 beer nights could have the potential to replicate the Cyclone's glory days of the Gardens years where the team was the sideshow and the Gardens was basically a bar with a cover charge (ticket price).
If I ran the show, it would be $1 beer every night.
Anyway, drinking too much pop is bad. Rots teeth, etc. The Cyclones would be contributing to poorer public health if they'd discount pop and I think that they strive to be a socially responsible corporation. |
