 Toledo Takes Wild 6-5 Win Over Cyclones

TOLEDO The Cincinnati Cyclones rallied three times to tie the game but could never grab the lead in a 6-5 defeat to Toledo on Saturday night at Lucas Count Arena. Wasted in the effort was a four assist night from Reid Cashman in the loss.

Four goals in a 2:07 stretch of the opening frame opened the scoring. The Walleye built a quick 2-0 edge as Evan Rankin collected his fifth of the season at 10:26 on the power play. It was the first man-disadvantage goal the Cyclones allowed in 35 chances this season. Justin Hodgman netted his second of the year a bit more than a minute later at 11:29. Cincinnati dented the scoreboard when Mark O'Leary picked up his second score of the campaign at 12:04 from Reid Cashman handed out the assist. Toledo ended the scoring flurry at 12:33. Before the period ended, Matt Pierce worked his way behind the Walleye defense to cut the deficit to 3-2. It was Pierce's eighth goal of the year and the sixth straight game that he had tallied a score. Cashman and Jimmy Kilpatrick had the assists. Toledo outshot the Cyclones, 12-11, in the opening period.

The Cyclones tied the game at 2:56 of the second period when Barret Ehgoetz notched his second score in as many night on the power play from Brett Motherwell and Cashman. A Toledo power play goal at 4:11 from Adam Hobson, his fourth, restored a 4-3 Walleye lead. Cincinnati tied the game for a second time when Dustin Sproat netted a breakaway goal for his fourth lamplighter at 9:22, but another Toledo power play goal at 12:21 from captain Ryan Stokes put the Walleye on top again, 5-4. The shots in the frame were even at seven apiece.

Cincinnati tied the game at five apiece at 1:03 of the third period when Brett Motherwell fired a shot from the top of the right circle for his first score with the team. The five-on-three power play goal was assisted by Cashman and Ehgoetz. The game winning goal came from J.C. Sawyer of Toledo, who slapped home a shot from the top of the right circle through traffichis fifth score of the year at 12:51. The shots in the third period favored Cincinnati, 12-11 and for the game the totals were even at 30 each.

Alec Richards took the victory, stopping 25 shots. Jeremy Smith dropped his third decision of the year for the Cyclonesturning aside 24 shots.

Cincinnati is now 5-4 on the yearin third place in the North Division, while Toledo is 6-3-1 and holds the second spot in the North. The Cyclones travel to Kalamazoo next weekend for a pair of games against the North Division leading K-Wings.
