I know its early in the season but to have a big hope in making the playoffs we are going to have to play tough against the Wings and Walleye because they are controlling the North right now. We play the Wings and Walleye another 24 times this year. The Wings are really tough and this week I hope the Clones and bring thier A game this week in Kalamazoo. |

My family and I will be at the Firday night game in Kalamazoo (then bopping up and taking in the Griffins/Amerks Saturday night in Grand Rapids). Looking forward to seeing Cincy and where we stack up in the division. You guys know Bootland's philosophy and style of play... should be fun.
Any of you Cyclones supporters making the trip up? It'd be fun to see some opposing colors in the building. I know we only had 2 brave fans from Reading make the trip to Kzoo for the first two Wings home games, and a lot of K-Wing fans are old-timers and remember the old IHL Cyclones well.
I wouldn't worry yet though, guys. It's early, and most teams haven't even played all their own divisional rivals yet. Toledo's a good team though (at least a good group of young forwards -- in Kalamazoo we're familiar with some of them from last year in the IHL) so they're not a fluke. |

I believe there are at least 20 Cyclones fans coming up. Most of us will be there the whole weekend.
Should be a great weekend. |

I haven't seen Toledo yet, but I think K-zoo will soon fall back to the rest of the pack. Nothing I saw from them in Wheeling scared me as far as future meetings are concerned.
They got off to a hot start, especially with their goaltending, allowing six goals in five games. Then Wheeling hung five on them and ever since they've allowed at least four goals in every game. That's got to catch up to them eventually.
Offensively, they've certainly put up some impressive totals, but again, I don't see that being sustained over the long haul. They do seem to have a really good forecheck, but that's just from seeing them play a lazy Wheeling team.
They have 17 points through ten games this season. Wheeling had 16 at the same point last season, and you all know how that played out. |

woodrow brings up some very good points, especially about wheeling's start last season. the nailers started on fire and after getting plagued with call-ups basically made the play-offs thanks to the cyclones domination of johnstown. if k-zoo is that good, it's only a matter of time before the phone starts ringing. if bootland doesn't give the non affiliate guys a chance to get called up the dominance will only last a year since word will spread and quality guys won't want to sign there as echl free agents.
i'm not worried about the 'clones. under weber they've never started off fast, but by december they are firing on all cyclinders. as far as this weekends match with k-zoo, the cyclones have plenty of firepower, a fast, puck moving defense, not to mention a familiarity with ryan nie.
it's still really early but from what i've seen so far, if cincy does what they normally do and toledo and k-zoo keep playing they way they are, it won't surprise me if all three don't make the playoffs. sorry woodrow, wheeling is odd man out. all that being said, it's november, the division and conference standings really won't start shaping up until late december. |

The Cyclones are going to make the playoffs every year as long as you have Weber behind the bench. I'd lay money on them taking the division again this season.
Florida, South Carolina, Elmira, and Cincy had playoff berths locked up before the season started. The South looks like it will put at least one if not both of it's other teams in.
Johnstown's just not good enough right now to have a chance. Wheeling's got the talent, but not the teamwork. Trenton doesn't look like a team that can sustain any long term success, and neither does Reading.
As of now, those would be the four teams out in my mind. Everyone's got 60+ games left, but most teams are at their best, talent-wise, right now.

Elvis,
I hope you are not forgetting our AWESOME penalty killing. I think the Clones will keep doing well as long as our PK does not go below 85%. Fear our PK. |

The phone in Kalamazoo has already been ringing off the hook.
Nie is playing Portland at the moment, because Lalime got hurt so Buffalo called up Enroth from Portland. Bootland is on tryout in Manitoba and probably not coming back. Worcester already recalled 2 players. Adirondack recalled Sloane. So Kzoo's already being tested for depth. Duchesne and Ellis have been very good in goal though, particularly Duchense (who we were told was horrible but here he is 3-0 with 1 SO). Cincy will probably see Duchense and Ellis in net once each this weekend.
As I've stated elsewhere though, nothing new to K-Wing fans that remember the old IHL and call-ups. I can tell you right now though that if Kzoo can ever stop taking so many penalties those games won't be 5-4 finals. Right now it's our PK that's killing us, we're on it so much. That's where a lot of opponent goals are coming from. If Cincy can make the Wings take penalties and then convert on the PP enough, it'll be a lot easier for Cincy.
By the way, I think Reading's a little better than many think. Reading responds poorly to physical games it seems, but if you don't get in their faces constantly and give them just a little space they have good skill up front to do real damage. If they got any more size from somewhere for up front they'd be a much tougher team to play against.
