New Year , New Promotions;
1:Military Appreciation Night - Picture of the jersey is small, but from what I can make out, it looks interesing.
2: Kids Eat Free Night - same old, same old.
3: Bobblehead Night - Ever want to shake Wille Cunningham? The Cyclones celebrate one of the nation's top radio personalities. Limited to the first 2500 fans.
First, I want to go on record, I do not want to ever shake anybody. Second, You can say I live under a rock, but who the hell is Wille Cunningham? And is he the bobblehead? How is this hockey related?
The jersey looks okey.It has the Cyclones crest in the center, and has a YMCA of Greater Cincinnati logo in the upper right, all in camouflage. As always, I will reserve judgement upon seeing it in person.

Uber-conservative talk show host on 700 WLW. Think Glenn Beck but on a much smaller scale (Cincinnati). Was somewhat infamous for announcing Obama by his full name (middle name "Hussein") multiple times at a McCain rally. McCain apologized for it.
Mine will be on Craigslist the next day. I guess it will bring people out, but seems pretty lame to me. |

| Not happy with the Willie Bobblehead. All he does is bash the Cyclones on air. He gives us little support and he gets a bobblehead?? come on. |

First we have a banner flying for Pete "The Gambler" Rose and now Bill "The Weasel" Cunningham. Does anyone else remember the horrible Star Spangle Banner attempt by Bill Cunningham years ago. Sorry Cyclones, as a season ticket holder I feel this is a slap in the face. We all can name 100 former Cyclones who easily would have been a better choice for a bobble head. |

I hate WLW. WLW has NOTHING to do with the Cincinnati Cyclones. The bobble head should have been Coach Weber or Barret Ehgoetz without a doubt.
I'd really like to know who the hell is making the decisions with these bobble heads so I can tell them they need to get some common sense.
We could just set all of the bobbleheads we get infront of WLW and set them on fire. heh |

Great idea in my book.
Cunningham is known and (obviously) incites passion. This choice has a built in self-promo as well. WLW will likely give this theme a great deal of mention.
Bobbleheads of Cyclones and Cyclone personalities (Desharnais and Wildman) have been box office failures. As committed fans, we might like the idea of bobbleheads of Eghoetz and/or Weber, but these promos haven't done well so far. And they probably never will. Cyclone personalities just aren't a drawing card. Now if we had Sgroi for a few years..........
The purpose of a promotion is to create a "buzz" and hopefully attract people through the door. The proof will be in the pudding, but I think the concept is a very sound one. I'd be surprised if the crowd isn't a good one.

Bobbleheads shouldn't be made to attract new fans but to keep the current fans happy. They aren't even of the greatest quality, the nights that draw people are kids and throwback price nights.

I will bet you money that it's not going to do anything having some idiot annoying radio announcer as our bobblehead. |

I actually agree with hrc on this one. Great idea by the Cyclones promotion staff. Bill Cunningham will no doubt give some excellent publicity for this game and giveaway. Love him or hate him, he does know how to create a buzz, and his ratings show that people listen to him.
Randy, sorry but I think you are wrong. Bobbleheads are not meant to keep fans happy. They are meant to get people to come to games. Bill Cunningham will get more people to a Cyclones game than Barret Ehgoetz every day of the week and twice on Sunday. This could be a really nice crowd.
Bill Cunningham - Annoying, yes. Idiot, definitely not. He is very intelligent. Idiot annoying radio announcer = Wildman. |

HRC got it right. Whether you like Willie or not, and I do, this will bring in a lot of people and really get the word out about the night. Why? Because even though the five people on here may dislike him, thousands of people tune into his show everyday, a show in which he will undoubtedly mention many, many times "HEY COME GET A BOBBLEHEAD OF ME at SUCH AND SUCH DATE." I'll definitely be coming to get one. I would also come for a Cyclones player bobble head, but let's face it, thousands of more people in this city know who Biill Cunningham is than Ehgoetz or Biggs. Smart move on the Cyclones staff.
I just hope the crowd isn't TOO big, since the arena, it's narrow corridors and it's incompetent staff seem to have trouble with any slightly large crowd. |

Okay if all you want is a crowd that buys their ticket, gets their bobblehead and then goes home and sells it on Ebay. How about the following "crowd pleasers": Charlie Manson Jerry Springer The "Octal" Mom Taylor Swift Oprah President Obama (oops-sorry we did that already ) I'm debating on getting mine, destroying it and sending the pieces in a box back to the promotion department. We may be "minor league" but we don't have to be "bush league"!

I like the Charlie Manson idea
I wonder why the Cyclones only order 2500 of a bobblehead? While I understand that they don't want to have thousands of extras which aren't distributed, limiting the number to 2500 almost insures that a large number of people will leave the building disappointed.
Given that the giveaway is a weekend night and post Jan 1-when attendance traditionally improves-it would seem to be safe to predict that a minimum of 5000 will attend the game.
The only thing that I can think of is that bobblehead collectors assume that they must get to games early to get their prize. And the cost of the product.
Does anyone know what bobbleheads cost the team? I haven't any idea. |

ok willie is not the the greatest but hell if clear channel wants to pay for them great. these promos are done by companies that will pay for the items and will supply some of the advertising for these promotions. 2500 is a nice number why do you need 5,000. lets see 1 per couple or family means we should see a crowd of about 5,000 plus. even the reds have down sized the amount of items in some of the promos they are doing. for all of you collectors who sell them on e-bay the fewer avail the higher the price, basic principle of bussiness higher demand and fewer available = higher price.

This is a good line of thinking for a promo department. Throw ideas out there for discussion to see which ones might be worth pursuing. This is how you get people to minor league sporting events. Unfortunately for the true fans, most people don't go for the actual games, so you have to give them other reasons to go, and hope they have a good enough time that they will come back. |
