READING, Pennsylvania - The Cincinnati Cyclones used a two goal performance by rookie All-Star Matt Pierce and a two assist effort from veteran forward Scott Reynolds to defeat the East Division leading Reading Royals, 4-1, on Saturday night. The win keeps the Cyclones within one point of Kalamazoo for the North Division lead.

Reading took an early lead when Olivier Labelle notched his tenth goal of the season from Marc Cavosie and Nick St. Pierre on the power play at 3:07. The Cyclones leveled the scores at one at 6:57 when Barret Ehgoetz collected his 14th lamplighter of the season with Brett Motherwell and Scott Reynolds having the assists. Cincinnati took the lead at 14:49 of the first period when Matt Pierce netted his 17th score of the campaign. Brett Robinson wrestled a puck off the right half wall and slipped it into the high slot where Pierce was able to convert the score. Cincinnati outshot the Royals, 13-7.

The assist by Scott Reynolds in the first period extended his point streak to seven games, as he has had four goals and six assists during this time.

There was no scoring in the second period, but Cincinnati had its chances in the period. The Cyclones had three power play chances, while Reading had one. Cincinnati won the shots battle, 8-2, in the period.

Cincinnati scored a pair of third period goals to ice the game. Maxime Lacroix banged home his sixth goal of the year at 3:38 as Reynolds added the helper. The final goal of the night came on a two-on-zero breakaway as Pierce collected his second of the night and 18th of the year from Jimmy Kilpatrick. Brock Sheahan added the other assist. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 12-8, in the period and 33-17 for the game.

The Cyclones went one-for-eight on the power play, while Reading went one-for-four with the man-advantage. Jeremy Smith improved to 11-7-1 on the season with a 16 save performance. Matt Dalton dropped to 10-8-1 in the defeat, turning away 29 shots.

Cincinnati is 22-12-1, while Reading is 19-13-3. The Cyclones are next in action in back-to-back games on Tuesday (Jan. 12) and Wednesday (Jan. 13) at U.S. Bank Arena. Wheeling is in on Tuesday's 'Big Beer Tuesday' promotion with two dollar 24 ounce beers and Kalamazoo is in on Wednesday's 'Wet Wednesday' event with dollar cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon and Miller High Life.
