I thought this constituted its own thread.
What were your thoughts on Cunningham's "ejection" from the game and replacement with Wildman?
Personally, I found it entertaining. I thought Cunningham did a great job drawing heat for himself (whether you love him or hate him) and it worked out perfectly having Wildman "replace" him upon his ejection.
Hats off to the Cyclones, Cunningham, Wildman and some very understanding officials for playing this off so well. It made for a good laugh.

That first period was painful having to deal with Cunningham stutter his way through just about everything.
Sure, Cunningham plays a good heel, but WWE has already come and gone. Save the theatrics for Disney on Ice. Or Muppets on Ice since we're talking about Willie here.. |

| I really wasn't amused with how Cunningham bumbled through that 1st period. Especially his little "speech" on the carpet right before the game started. It looked like there were a handful of players on both sides giving him dirty looks while he was doing that, too. If he was trying to be funny, he failed miserably IMHO. I did kind of chuckle with the "ejection" part--the ref did a good performance. |

| Listening to Cunningham on the PA was along the same lines as sitting it a room with multiple people running their fingernails down chalk boards... |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Last night was (IMO) an embaressment!!! Cunninghams' little speech at the beginning and his attempts at the PA were nothing short of tragic. Add to that, his inability to pronounce most of the players names correctly shows how little he was committed to even trying to do well. The pronoucement of supporting 'Clonehead' fans only made it worse and angered quite a few fans.
Sorry, although it got a lot of publicity and a lot of 'radio' time, I don't feel that having to hear/deal with Cunninghams' ego trip was all that benificial for the CYCLONES. |

At least all that nonsense didn't jinx the team! And, I forgot about the whole mispronunciation of the players' names thing. That was downright bull****. If you're going to announce a game, at least put forth some effort to look like a professional. Cunningham's performance showed me that he thought the whole thing was one big joke. |

I'm pretty sure the mispronunciations and general ignorance was SET UP the whole time, just like the ejection was. It just played into the Wildman feud, the whole point was to get the fans fired up that he was doing an embarrassing job.
I'm not really sure what I'll think of this after time passes. I'm no fan of Cunningham, but I guess it sparked more interest to set up the feud with Wildman leading to the return. By the way, the funniest part IMO was Wildman asking "where's my shirt?" in regards to being the eco-friendly fan of the game. Since that's what they were going for, I'm surprised they didn't just tell Cunningham to actually root for the Stingrays. Either way, that big of a crowd is one which I anticipate we'll see on many weekend games the rest of the season. |

It seems to me that there would have been two scenarios worked out in advance to dismiss Willie after the first period, and the mis-pronunciation of names / general ignorance was all part of the unused scenario.
Had the Cyclones been leading after the 1st period, I'm guessing that Cyclones officials would have shown Willie the door due to his poor PA performance, but since the 1st period played out the way it did, they had Willie's whole rant on the "incompetent officiating" to fall back on. This whole sideshow/freakshow/event was structured very similarly to a pro wrestling style plot-line.
P.S. I found it entertaining. But I also grew up watching pro wrestling, so that may be why I see the parallels I mentioned above. But I can see why people would've been put off by the whole thing, too.
Incidentally, I thought the game was pretty well officiated overall.. |

I enjoyed it. Like Cyclonehole said, most things were all a SET UP. You would expect someone like Cunningham to butcher names, and make inappropriate comments. (I sure hope [suspect] that the Clones had an exception on fines... cuz Cunningham sure did rack up a couple [hand fulls!]) I thought it was all very entertaining.
I am glad that they only did it through the first period, then put things back "in order" afterwords. A WHOLE game of Cunningham would have been too much. |

like mosti was not at all entertained or amused by Wilie's antics last night. whether on purpose and whether he is just that uninformed as far as names i thought it was disrepectful to both teams the was he did introductions. not only that he seemed all but clueless as far as the game itself (rules, when to speak/when to shut up, that people know what "icing" is and that it'unnecessary to announce it etc..). finally, someone should have told him it might be a good idea not to try to announce the goal scorer/assts before the goal horn was turned off.
i really hope mgmt doesnt "invite" him back. i doubt i could get through another period of his antics...jmho.
