Overall, Desharnais made a few good passes (an EXCELLENT pass on his assist...really threaded the needle there), got a few shots, and got involved in a few scrambles at the net trying to poke the puck past a goaltender. But he didn't win battles along the boards or in the corners, and he wasn't very fast at all, usually trailing the play. Quite a few times I saw big lumbering defensemen beat him to the puck in the offensive corners. Even when defensemen beat forwards to the puck in the offensive corners, the fast forwards race in and either hit the d-men, tie them up, or poke the puck away. Desharnais lost the races, watched the d-men get in behind the net and come around the other side to either pass the puck off or clear the zone.
Plus, Martin only trusted him enough to play him about 8-9 minutes a game, and usually not late in close games or other critical times.
We'll see if he makes it back, but he has a LOT to work on if he wants to come back and stick. |
