Montreal 6, Washington 5, OT
Montreal 12:45, Glen Metropolit 12 (power play) (David Desharnais, Roman Hamrlik)
Okay David is now an NHL player in the scoring stat records. If you want to comment
in the negative way-please use the other thresd. If you want to comment in the positive
side-feel free to. Please allow one line of positive talk on behalf of Desharnais.

This is a great story for the underdogs of the game to not get drafted is one thing, but his size and not getting drafted its just a great story to make it to the NHL and get in the points book. From cramped bus trips to Johnstown and Trenton he will now be flying first class to Philadelphia

As expected, DD (and the other recalled Bulldogs) were sent down to Hamilton while the NHL takes its Olympic Break.

quote:
MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens announced Sunday that forwards David Desharnais,Tom Pyatt and defenseman P.K. Subban have been assigned to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs.

Desharnais, 23, played six games with the Canadiens this season, including his first in the NHL against the Penguins in Pittsburgh on November 25. The 507, 177 lbs forward registered his first point in the NHL (assist) on February 10 against Washington. Desharnais also recorded two hits and played an average of eight minutes and 26 seconds.

Desharnais is second on the Bulldogs with 48 points (16-32-48) in 37 games. He added 91 shots on goal and 24 penalty minutes, while maintaining a +10 plus/minus differential. He missed the first 13 games of the season with a foot injury. A native of Quebec City, Desharnais signed with the Canadiens as a free agent on November 5, 2008.

He got his feet wet and knows what he's got to do to make it at the NHL level. Who knows what the future will bring, but for the last 9 days David Desharnais got to live his life as an NHLer. Not a bad week, I would think.

Congratulations to David Desharnais for his time spent in the NHL. Thousands of hockey players dream about making it to the best league in the world, and David accomplished this, scoring a point along the way. His name is forever etched in the NHL records, alongside other Cincinnati favorites Bob Wren, Don Biggs, and Morris Titanic.
