CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones used a three goal second period to slip past the Kalamazoo Wings, 5-2, on Wednesday night. After spotting the Wings a 2-0 lead, the Cyclones rallied for the final five goals of the evening. Dustin Sproat netted a pair of goals in the triumph. Barret Ehgoetz became the club's all-time leading scored with 215 points after a goal and an assist performance.
It was the second time this season that the Cyclones wiped out a two goal deficit and raced to a victory. The other occurred on November 27 in a 6-5 win against Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo scored the lone goal of the first period when sixth year forward Darryl Lloyd snapped off a shot from the left wing side past Cincinnati netminder Jeremy Smith. It was the twelfth goal of the season for Lloyd, who was assisted by former Cyclone Sam Ftorek and Mitch Versteeg. The shots on goal favored the Cyclones, 13-4, in the term.
The Wings extended the lead to 2-0 when Rick Cleaver banged home his 19th score of the campaign on the power play at 5:36. Derek Strong and Jon Landry had the assists on the score. After eight minutes of play in the middle period, Cincinnati Head Coach Chuck Weber used his timeout for the game. The Cyclones had been outshot, 7-0, to that point.
The next three goals all went Cincinnati's way. Dustin Sproat got things rolling at 9:58 with a power play score from the top of the goal crease as Jimmy Kilpatrick and Mark Voakes had the assists. Just 28 seconds later, Chris Morehouse picked up a puck in a scramble in front of the net and slipped it past Wings netminder Ryan Nie to knot the scores at one each. Scott Reynolds and Ryan Del Monte had the helpers. The first lead of the night for the Cyclones came at 14:22 when Voakes tipped home a man-advantage goal, his sixth of the season, from Jimmy Kilpatrick and Barret Ehgoetz. The shots on goal for the frame favored Kalamazoo, 9-8. It was the twelfth time this season that the Cyclones scored three or more goals in a period and the third time against Kalamazoo.
With the assist by Barret Ehgoetz in the second period, he passed Sheldon Gorski for the club's career scoring lead with 214 points. Ehgoetz has 75 goals and 139 assists for the top spot. The fifth year center from Kincardine, Ontario has played the last four seasons in Cincinnati. Gorski played for the club in its inaugural seasons in Louisville (1995-96 through 1997-98) and in Miami (1998-99)but never appeared in a game for the team in Cincinnati. He would score a third period goal to extend those numbers.
Cincinnati notched a pair of goals in the third period to secure the win. Ehgoetz lit the lamp for the 18th time this season at 2:54 from Ryan Del Monte and Scott Reynolds. The scoring was closed out at 4:01 when Sproat got his second of the night and 15th of the year from Morehouse and Kilpatrick. The shots again favored Cincinnati, 11-7. For the game, the Cyclones won the shots battle, 32-20.
The Cyclones were two for seven on the power play, while Kalamazoo was one for five with the extra man. Jeremy Smith won his 16th game of the season, stopping 18 shots. Former Cyclone Ryan Nie was pinned with the loss, turning aside 27 shots.
Cincinnati is 31-17-1, while Kalamazoo drops to 24-15-6. The Cyclones kick off a three-games-in-three-nights stretch on Friday at Toledo at 7pm. Saturday (Feb. 13), the club returns to U.S. Bank Arena for 'Barret Ehgoetz Kids Replica Jersey T-Shirt Night' with a 7:30pm clash against Johnstown and heads to Johnstown for a 7pm Valentine's Day showdown with the Chiefs.
With the win, Cincinnati extends its lead in the North Division to seven points over second place Wheeling and nine points over Kalamazoo and Toledo. The club is 14 games above .500 for the first time this season.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. The next game on 1530 Homer will come Friday (February 12), when the Cyclones travel to Toledo at 7pm.

It's always great to be able to come back from a two goal deficit.
It never seems to fail that when we are completely dominating someone (tonight shots were 8-0 at one point), the other team scores first. Smith got handcuffed on the first Kzoo goal, but was strong thereafter.
Even though Kzoo has 4 games in hand on us, they're now 9 points behind us.
Cheers to Ehgoetz for becoming the Cyclones ECHL franchis all time leading scorer and Morehouse for the Gordie Howe Hat trick (fight/assist/goal).

If you're the all-time leading scorer for a minor league team, it means you weren't good enough to move up to the next level or the franchise only lasted 1-2 years. |

Figure we'll be seeing an 11 with "Ehgoetz" next to it along with Dionne, Biggs, Lawless, Rose and Fans once Barret retires? |

Are you always an ass or just on this board?
There is nothing wrong with being "Crash Davis." At least he's playing hockey and not selling used cars... Or being an ass on a web board.

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama. |

I think he's just being honest man. I don't think he was claiming there was anything wrong with Ehgoetz still being here. Even if he never moved up from the ECHL, its great to be able to have someone like him still on the team. Kind of like a name you come to recognize after awhile, especially since he was on the Kelly Cup team. Not to mention, his family is now in Cincinnati and he's involved with local chartiy. Maybe he wasn't good enough for higher leagues, but he's been a great player to have here. |

I think he is being an "ass". He seems to be a psycho and is obsessed with bashing anyone and anything that has to do with the ECHL. He apparently has no life except to put other people down since he doesn't have his league still in town.

I generally don't take the bait on these kind of posts because I understand how the game works, but since you're being so defensive of his statement, let me put it this way: It's funny how "being honest" isn't actually relevant to the conversation. I don't see anywhere in hrc's post where he claimed that Ehgoetz should be at a higher level or anything of the sort which would trigger that response. I.e., if you state that there are thousands of fast food restaurants in the world, I don't respond that the food isn't very nutritious. |

Well, I really didn't think I was being that defensive and I do feel it was somewhat relevant since the discussion was about Barret Ehgoetz. Whether the post was rude or not it still stands as true that Ehgoetz has been here for awhile, unlike a player such as David Desharnis who is working to make a name for himself in the NHL. While he technically may not have "been good enough for the NHL" or some higher leauge, I think he's beginning to garner a reputation as a local sports figure. He's a great player and helped start a local charity with Dustin Sproat. Kudos on his accomplishment tonight. |

WILL YOU 'CHILDREN' STOP!!!!!
I came to the board to read about the game last night, which I was unable to attend. Instead I am reading the same ole 'conflict of opinions' that lately either takes over or takes off topic just about every thread on this board!
Enough already!!!!
********************* Congrats to Ehgoetz! Maybe one day we will see his number retired. |

No matter at what league someone plays, it is an honor to break a long standing record. It show that the player worked hard and played hard. As a mom he is a great role model no matter that he is in the ECHL. Good job Ehgoetz.
Let's move on and enjoy our team's victory. |

| Barret is a type of player that loves this city, he lives in the area now, getting married here, this is his team, he puts the team ahead of anything else. Out of all the players since the restart Barret has been with all of them and his hard work has paid off. When you think of the Cyclones Barret Ehgoetz will now be listed among the best to put on that jersey and he deserves his #11 to be placed on north side of the arena because of his dedication to the city, and to the team since 2006. |

| Forgot to add, the free pucks were a nice surprise last night. Had no idea they were giving those out. |

| Yeah, the pucks were a nice addition. I thought the crowd was good considering the weather conditions. Plus, it was awesome to see Barret get the record last night. All in all, a fun game! |

The Cyclones actually out-drew an NBA game last night... The New Jersey Nets had 1,016 at their game last night ;- )
And has anyone heard the commercial running on 1530 Homer for the Barret "Exit" kids jersey t-shirt? Just thought that was funny... |
