Two of the three Bulldogs who were recalled due to the injury bug in Montreal were returned to Hamilton. Brock Trotter and Ryan White, who were the makeshift Montreal 4rth "Energy Line" along with DD, will be earning AHL paychecks this week.

David Desharnais continues to earn an NHL check. There is some degree of significance to this as this is the first move of the new GM's tenure. Perhaps he's a short guy?

Gauthier is a short guy, standing 5-foot-7, and he is the one that recommended the Canadiens sign Desharnais to a two-year deal (they had to sign him for two years since it was his first NHL contract and he was under the age of 23, as per the NHL CBA).

Gauthier is also the same guy that drafted Smirnov and the 5-foot-9 Chistov in the first round of the NHL entry draft in back-to-back years.

Desharnais won four of five faceoffs against the Bruins, something no matter how poor he played in that game in 5-on-5 situations that Gauthier and Jacques Martin took note of.

With Gauthier now the GM, don't be surprised if it is Carey Price instead of Jaroslav Halak that get traded.

For those on this board interested in the take on the play of DD by many Canadien fans, then I suggest reading HFBoards: http://hfboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16.

A smaller sampling is available on the Canadiens own wesite:
http://forum.canadiens.com/

Just as a note, "poor play" of Desharnais is something which I have not seen his play categorized-even once insofar as I've read-on either board. Interesting, eh?

I would say that calling David out for playing poorly is a bit unfair given that the rest of the team played terribly as well. Yes, David was late in getting back to his point coverage, ultimately leading to a goal, but if you watch just about any NHL game you'll see the same thing out of guys that are NHL regulars. The shot was rather harmless until Ryan White tried to knock it out of the air...Sh@t happens.

More interestingly, David has not been credited with a giveaway in his 3 NHL games. I'm not claiming the puck is glued to his stick, every pass has been perfect or he hasn't lost control of the puck, but when one of the someone says something along of the lines of "giveaways and turnovers will plagues his career" (this is paraphrased) I would expect to see him have a few by now if that is indeed the case. I'm not saying he's ready to play 80+ games in the NHL today, he has improving to go, but so does Sidney Crosby if you ask me and a few other scouts and former NHL stars, but I am saying that perhaps the guy is better and more motivated than you give him credit for. He proved people wrong when they said he'd never put up numbers in any pro league. He proved the people who said he'd be invisible in the AHL. Perhaps given some time to develop he'll find his niche. Perhaps his chance won't even really come from the Habs. Perhaps he may never stick, but perhaps he is just a little better than think and perhaps he will continue to prove people wrong.

I'm hoping that DD will be given the remaining three games prior to the Olympic break to gain further experience. I'd consider it a huge compliment to him that he would have been the one chosen to stay at the top level the entire time while other drafted players were sent down instead during the injury fill-in period for the Habs. Especially given the fact that the Habs really don't need another small, non-physical player in their line up.

The Habs play Washington on Wednesday in Montreal and then have a home and home vs. Philly (Fri/Sat) before the two week hiatus.

I'm sure that DD will be suiting it up for the Bulldogs after that point. He's really in a win-win mode for the rest of the season. He'll either be getting his feet wet in the NHL or competing for a Calder Cup in Hamilton.

Desharnais may get significant minutes for duration of call up.

Their absence has drastic consequences on the Canadiens second-ranked power play, forcing Martin to load up all his healthy bodies on one unit and hope for the best. Even if it means playing Plekanec and fellow centre Scott Gomez together up front.

"It means we'll have to put some (other) players on the second unit like (David) Desharnais, (Glen) Metropolit and (Mathieu) Darche and hope they can contribute," Martin said. "But it opens an opportunity for other players as well."

I wonder how Don Biggs would feel about that comment?

Chuck Weber has to be pretty ignorant about the history of hockey in Cincinnati to make that claim.

Robbie Ftorek, Rick Dudley, Bill Hajt, Todd Simon, Paul Lawless, Andy McDonald, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Ilya Bryzgalov, Chris Mason, Reg Thomas, Jamie Hislop, Jason Krog, Keith Aucoin, Casey Hankinson, Chris Kunitz, Matt Cullen, Dennis Sobchuk, Blaine Stoughton, Claude Larose, Richie Leduc, Ron Plumb, Darryl Maggs, Ernie Godden, Norm Aubin, Rick Blight, Bruce Boudreau, Mike Gartner, Joffrey Lupul, John Gould, Billy Inglis, Doug Rombough, Morris Titanic, Peter McNab, Ray McKay, Craig Norwich, Peter Marsh, Don Biggs, Len Barrie, Patrick Lebeau, Daniel Gauthier, Stanislav Chistov, Tony Martinsson, Bob Wren, Gilbert Dionne, Craig Charron, Kevin Dean, among others that played here, all better players than David Desharnais.

Fun post response. Not a serious one.

Now if you'd stay off these boards like you always say you will.

You wouldn't be missed. At all.

Over and out to you.

Only took 40 percent of the Canadiens offense to be out of the lineup for him to get his chance.

Morris Titanic was on pace for a 40-goal season as a first-year pro before he missed 14 games midway through the 1973-74 season due to a knee injury that plagued him the rest of his career. Wore #12. Played on a line with Peter McNab (#16) and Jim Nichols (#11).

Titanic was drafted in the first round by the Sabres after a 60-goal, 120-point season with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. He was working at a gas station when he was notified he had been drafted by Buffalo with the 12th overall pick in the 1973 amateur draft.

You're right. I don't clearly remember the guy.

I don't know. Christov is having a great year in the KHL. It would be interesting to see how a player like Desharnais would do should he ever make his way over to that league.
