TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones used a 26 save effort from rookie goaltender Robert Mayer and a Barret Ehgoetz goal for a 1-0 win at Toledo on Friday night. The shutout was the second of the season for Mayer.
It was the first 1-0 victory for the Cyclones since January 5, 2007 when Mathieu Aubin had the only marker in a 31 save effort from Cedrick Desjardins in a triumph over Reading.
The game was scoreless through the opening twenty minutes. Each team had opportunities to score, with the Cyclones having two power play chances in the first term. The shots on goal were even at ten each.
The Cyclones opened the scoring with the only tally of the second period. Barret Ehgoetz, who became the club's all-time leading scorer on Wednesday night, snapped a shot past Toledo goaltender Alec Richards at 2:55 of the period. The score was assisted by Scott Marchesi and Scott Reynolds. Ehgoetz, the leading scorer in the series, has seven goals and six assists for 13 points at the expense of the Walleye. Later in the frame, Toledo had a two-on-one opportunity that goaltender Robert Mayer was able to thwart to protect the lead. The shots again were even at nine each in the period.
There was no scoring as the Cyclones were able to hold off the Walleye charge that featured three power play chances in the final frameincluding a five-on-three situation for twenty seconds. The shots favored Cincinnati, 12-7, in the period and 31-26 for the game.
Robert Mayer improved to 14-7 on the season with his 26 save performance. Toledo goaltender Alec Richards drops to 13-7-3 on the year with his 30 save effort. Cincinnati was zero for six on the power play, while Toledo was zero for four with the man-advantage.
It was the twelfth time this season that the Cyclones skated at least a player short and the third straight contest that the club has been in this position. The squad is 8-4 in these contests.
Cincinnati is 32-17-1, while Toledo is 25-20-4. The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow night for 'Barret Ehgoetz Kids Replica Jersey T-Shirt Night' with a 7:30pm clash against Johnstown. The club heads to Johnstown for a Valentine's Day showdown with the Chiefs at 7pm.
Cincinnati leads the North Division with 65 points. Wheeling is in second with 56 points. Kalamazoo and Toledo are tied for third in the division with 54 points.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. The next game on 1530 Homer will come next Friday (February 19), when the Cyclones host Wheeling at 7:30pm.

| Fox 19, which I assume they got the footage from Toledo's arena feed, had good coverage of the game tonight. Showed some good highlights and actually talked about it on the sports recap a little. Seems like Fox19 has been doing a good job of covering the clones this season. |

Great win tonight. It looked grim when Sheahan took a delay penalty to give Toledo a 5 on 3 with about 5 minutes left, but the PK did an extraordinary job-Toledo wilted under the pressure.
Mayer stole the show. Rock solid, to say the least.
It was my first trip to the new Toledo arena and it didn't disappoint. It fits very nicely into the scheme of downtown and is a great source of pride to the folks of the area. Nonetheless, I'll take the now-vanished TSA. It had an atmosphere like nowhere else. RIP Sports Arena. |

| Does the Toledo arena have its scoreboard yet or are they still using that projector screen against the wall? |

| Was there a dyslexic hiccup that Dustin Sproat (26) got 1st star instead of Mayer (29) who got left off entirely? |

| Had to have been something along those lines. Because Ehgo was 2 and the losing goalie was 3. |

The new Toledo arena will be where the top prospects for the Detroit Red Wings play in the foreseeable future. |

Found a video clip of the game in Toledo on Friday and has a clip of a few Cyclones fans congregating before the game. I believe I saw Rob, Mark and Joe in there... Love fan sightings on the news! LOL
