CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Cyclones forward Dustin Sproat recorded his first three goal game of his career and the club used it to build a 4-0 edge in a 6-2 win over the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The win was the sixth straight for the first place Cyclones. Sproat and Jimmy Kilpatrick each had four point nights.
The Cyclones exploded for three opening period goals to grab a 3-0 edge at the end of the first period. Scott Reynolds picked up his 18th goal of the season as Brett Motherwell and former Chief Ryan Del Monte, in his first game against his old team, having the assists at 6:32. Dustin Sproat would add a pair of power play goals, his 16th and 17th, at 10:34 and 19:14. Brock Sheahan and Jimmy Kilpatrick had the assists on the first score and Kilpatrick and Barret Ehgoetz had the helpers on the second. Cincinnati had another chance with a penalty shot for Matt Pierce at 13:53 that went wide of the mark. Cincinnati controlled the shots in the first period, 11-5. The Cyclones were two for three on the power play, while Johnstown was zero for one with the extra attacker.
The three first period goals marked the 13th time this season that the Cyclones registered a trio of scores in a frame and the fourth time in six contests against Johnstown.
Johnstown scored a pair of goals and was able to whittle the lead to 4-2 after two periods. The Cyclones extended the lead to 4-0 when Sproat completed the hat trick with a power play marker at 4:49 of the stanza with his 18th goal from Kilpatrick and Ehgoetz. The Chiefs would get a man-advantage goal from Jordan Morrison (eighth at 12:28) and former Cyclone Bryan Marshall (15th at 18:18). The shots favored Cincinnati, 14-7, in the period.
The third period saw Cincinnati score both goals to close the scoring. Jamie Coghlan's first goal of the season came from the slot at 5:42 as Mark Voakes and Matt Pierce had the assists. Kilpatrick got his eighth goal at 18:15, as Sproat got the assist and each player completed their four point nights. The shots favored the Cyclones, 13-7, in the period and 38-19 for the game. Cincinnati was three for eight on the power play, while Johnstown was one for three with the man advantage.
Robert Mayer won his fifth straight game with a 17 save performance, improving to 15-7. John Murray dropped to 4-14-2 on the year with a 34 save performance.
The crowd of 6423 pushed the Cyclones season attendance to 91,330an average of 3513 per game. It was the 14th largest crowd in team history and fourth-largest this season. It marks the fifth time in 2009-10 that the club has attracted more than 6000 fans to a contest. The Cyclones sit 16th in the ECHL in attendance, 19.9 percent ahead of last season's pace through 26 home games. Cincinnati, which has finished first or second in attendance percentage improvement in each of the prior two seasons, has attracted more fans than it had through 31 games in 2008-09 (through March 18, 2009).
Cincinnati is 33-17-1, while Johnstown is 14-28-8. The teams meet again Sunday night at 7pm at the Cambria County War Memorial. The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena for three games next week, when Toledo visits on Wednesday and Wheeling is in for games on Friday and Saturday. All three games start at 7:30pm.
Cincinnati leads the North Division with 67 points. Kalamazoo, Wheeling and Toledo are tied for second with 56 points.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. | As much as I enjoyed tonights game, there was an oversight made. I am not alone in what I saw. In the third period, J-Town did score a goal. It hit the center post, then bounced out to where Robbie quickly knocked it away. But since the goal judge angle was poor, and on ice referee's were nowhere to be seen, no goal. No it would not have made a difference for J-Town, but I felt compeled to set the record straight. |

If it is the play I'm thinking of it was not a goal. I sit in Sec 60 (140) and the shot came from Mayer's right and hit the left post. The puck settled there for a second before it was cleared. The only other close call that I recall in the 3rd involved a puck getting caught up in Mayer's gear as he was down on the ice near the goal line. The defense was there to make sure it never trickled free.
I can't recall any other close calls in the 3rd and I have a pretty good view. Tim, the head of off-ice officals, was the goal judge at our end and for as much crap as I give him, he does an excellent job. If a puck goes in, the opposing players are usually a pretty good indicator too, they usually celebrate before the referee ever makes a call and the J-town players never should any sign that they ever thought they got the puck past Mayer in the 3rd. I'd say the score was right on the money. |

Nice win again. Six in a row and now we're up by 11 points over the other 3 divisional rivals.
Great to see Coughlan get a goal. Sproat hasn't been sharp around the net at all of late, but that certainly wasn't the case tonight.
Great crowd as well. Hockey is alive and well in Cincinnati. Hats off to the management which has created such great success in a very difficult environment. |

Great game start to finish. Both sides had a fluke goal on unexpected shot angles and the pipe helped out Mayer twice. Love this end to end hockey being played. Next game I vote for Smith in goal. Both goalies seem to hit the wall at three games-lets keep to a two and two rotation. |

Did anyone have a good angle on the Chiefs second goal? I was up in section 212, and from my viewpoint, I thought there was no way that was a goal, it looked like it squirted in under the cage somehow from the side. I was waiting for a ref review that never happened.
Great game!! The Cyclones played hard all the way through, like they've been doing as of late. This last part of the season's going to be good! |

| Great crowd, entertaining game. I thought Jimmy Kilpatrick had a terrific game, and not just because he had four points (1g, 3a). |

| Sit behind the east goal. Johnstown's 2nd goal went in off Mayer's skate which was near the post but not hard against it. He had is pad against it which left enough room for the puck to hit his skate and slide in. |

As usaul Elvis, I have faith your opnion. The shot was soooooooo fast, that it appeared like it it the center post. Now that I think about it, it very well may have it the side post to his left side. I sit by Sherry and others. |
