Was sitting here watching the Olympics with TwoMinutesWellWorthIt and Lindsday Vonn just got awarded the gold. As they raised the beautiful American flag and played the national anthem I remarked to him that I was expecting the crowd to yell "HOWWWIIEE!" after: "Laaannnd offf thhhee freee."
Just curious as to what the story behind that tradition is and how it all got started? Everyone is yelling "Howie," right? |

| haha, thanks for the link jevers. Nice to know what the story is behind that. I keep wanting to yell Howie every time I hear a national anthem now. Did anyone ever figure out what he was arrested for? |

| I am 99% certain he got pinched for assaulting a fan. You have to love the old rough and tumble ECHL. It wasn't the greatest hockey but damn it was entertaining. |

I grew up with the old Birmingham Bulls of the WHA and later ECHL. Occassionally the puck was an optional part of the game.

Good video Catch22. What I want to see is the Thanksgiving Massacre between the Bulls and the Stingers. From the opening face-off, there was a massive line brawl.
BTW, the "Howie" bit also fits in the Canadian national anthem.....

| Howie also got in trouble for throwing his stick at a fan in the stands, and instead it hit another fan in the face and broke his nose. I can't remember if that was while he was still with the Cyclones. I also can't remember if he got in legal trouble over this incident, or just suspended/banned from a league. |

Howie never did kill anyone, Hell if you come to think about
it neither did Manson. So what's your point? |
