TOLEDO, Ohio - A pair of Toledo Walleye goals 2:05 apart in the first period was enough to give the club a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night. Goaltender Jordan Pearce turned aside 30 shots to register his 13th win of the season. Brock Sheahan had the lone Cincinnati goal.
Toledo scored both first period goals to grab a 2-0 edge. Maxime Tanguay collected his 23rd goal of the season at 11:48. It was just the first of the campaign for Tanguay against Cincinnati. Tony Romano and Joe Charlebois had the assists. A power play goal a little more than two minutes later would extend the lead, as Scooter Smith buried his eleventh of the yearand sixth against the Cyclonesfrom the left wing side. J.C. Sawyer had the helper on the tally. The shots favored Cincinnati, 9-8.
There was no scoring in the second period. Toledo was able to double up the shots on goal in the term at 12-6, thanks in part to three power plays for the Walleye. Cincinnati did not receive a man-advantage opportunity in the middle term.
A power play goal just 18 seconds into the third period by Tony Romano, his eleventh, closed Toledo's scoring. Cincinnati would get on the board less than two minutes later when Brock Sheahan ripped a shot from the center of the blueline for his fourth score of the campaign. Reid Cashman had the assist on the score. Cincinnati would pull its goaltender in the final minutes trying to net a score but came away empty. The shots favored Cincinnati, 16-9, in the term and 31-29 for the game.
Jordan Pearce picked up the win with 30 saves, while Robert Mayer took the loss despite stopping 26 shots. Toledo was two-for-six with the power play while Cincinnati was zero-for-four with the extra man.
Toledo, which is fighting for its postseason life in the American Conferencecontinues to hold the seventh spot (of eight). The Walleye began a three-in-three stretch tonight. Toledo holds a one point edge over Reading for seventh spot.
Cincinnati is 40-22-3, while Toledo is 32-26-6. The game was the middle contest of a three-in-three for Cincinnati, as the Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow for a 7:30pm clash against the Walleye on a 'Kids Eat Free' promotion.
Cincinnati leads the North Division with 83 points. Kalamazoo is second with 80, while Toledo is third at 70 and Wheeling rounds out the division with 66 points. The Cyclones have led the North Division for 73 days this season and for 334 days over the past three-plus seasons.
The opening round of the Kelly Cup playoffs will be during the week of April 5 and will be a best-of-five series. The format for games, opponents and dates will be determined as the postseason approaches. The latest information on the team and playoffs can be found at www.cycloneshockey.com.

| Getting real nervous about Toledo in playoffs. This makes a total of three goals scored o in the last three games against them, and 14 in the last 7 games against a team giving up almost four goals a game. Year to date record is 3-7 having lost six out of the last seven. with the only win being a 1-0 shutout. Every team matches up differently vs other teams and we don't seem to match up well with their size keeping us away from the net. Will be real interested in seeing how things go tomorrow night. Anyone at tonight's game see anything specific? |

We seem to have matchup issues with these guys.
And what in the world is the deal with Scooter? Apparently he only scores against us, and he does it in almost every game.
Note for tomorrow... Somebody get Scooter.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
