CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this afternoon that mascot Twister, Zamboni Driver Guido, The nice lady named Sarah at concessions behind section 128, The Beer Man, Donnie Hockey, The two deputies that direct traffic, and Wildman Walker have been recalled by the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL).
In further news, the Cyclones announced a new program for season ticket holders that requires them to be subject to be called up to Milwaukee at any time. This program goes into effect beginning with the 2010 playoffs. Please note that it is unlikely these season ticket holders will actually attend the Milwaukee games. Rather, they will be required to make the trip to the arena to stand in the parking lot.

No, but they have claimed every pulled pork sandwich in Cincinnati. They aren't planning to eat them though.

Here's a couple e-mails I shared back and forth with the Admirals president. He makes a nice, but weak, attempt at explaining Milwaukee's addiction with recalling Clones.
"HI, I'm a longtime hockey fan... I live in Cincinnati and after watching the Milwaukee Cyclones, er, I mean, Admirals recall and reassign Cincinnati players like it's an addiction, I finally have to ask.....What the hell are you doing? Milwaukee went from first to fourth and about out of the playoff picture, so why in the hell would you take Van Guilder and Cashman back (poor Mark's head must be spinning from all the illogical reassigning) when the Cyclones are on the verge of nabbing their 3rd division title in a row and need players to stay and help and develop rather than have their talents wasted traveling back and forth to Milwaukee? I know hockey well enough that you don't need to use the old excuse about 'that's how it goes in the minors'. Coach Weber and the 'Clones sit 2 points out with 3 games left, including a head-to-head tomorrow with the current division leader. A 3rd title in a row is quite possible, but a little more challenging with the poor decisions by Milwaukee. What good will any recalls do this late when the Admirals are done anyway? Funny how Hamilton doesn't seem to have recall addiction and they're in first with former Clones... take note. Maybe you should recall less and perhaps even swap some players rather than simply taking them. WTF are you guys doing? Doesn't seem like you have a clue.
Patiently waiting for MIlwaukee Cyclones, er, Admirals to make sense. -Jim" |

" Dear James, Thank you for your e-mail. Just an FYI that we are not out of the playoff picture at all. As a matter of fact, if the season ended today, we would be in the playoffs. The top four teams in each division qualify and if you were to look at the AHL standings today you'd see us in fourth place in the West but just three points ahead of Peoria whom we play twice over the last 12 days of the season including this Friday. We are in a very similar position to Cincinnati with just a few more games remaining. We need every point we can get here and need to have as much depth to handle injuries right now. Regarding Mark Van Guilder and Reid Cashman, they have been on the yo-yo quite a bit this year. Here in Milwaukee, we've gone through the same thing with Alex Sulzer, Andreas Thuresson, Cal O'Reilly and others. It is part of the game. Players get hurt at the higher level and need to be replaced. Whether it's Nashville to here or Milwaukee to Cincinnati. I can't speak to Hamilton's situation. They are a different organization and have different needs. No team likes to have their rosters affected at important times. These are important games in Nashville, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. Also, to say we don't have a clue is way off base as we are on the verge of becoming the first team in the 74-year history of the AHL to have 90-or-more points for seven consecutive seasons. We know, through the guidance of the Predators, what we are doing. As to why our GM doesn't have a direct e-mail through our website, it is because Nashville is solely responsible for all hockey related decisions. Paul Fenton, the Assistant GM of the Predators, is responsible for Milwaukee's roster. I hope this clarifies the situation for you. I can understand your frustration. We live with the risk of losing our best player on a daily basis. If Nashville, who is fighting for playoff positioning needs someone they are going to take him and it will likely have a trickle down effect. We are here to develop players for the NHL. Thanks again for your e-mail! Go Admirals, Cyclones and Predators! Jon Greenberg President Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Club " |

"Mr. Greenburg,
Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. And thanks for your attempt at explaining, you represent your team well. I can understand your pride in the 7-year-90-point streak... everyone's got a statistic to fly, don't they. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with your assertion that Milwaukee is 'in a very similar position to Cincinnati'... barely clinging to the last playoff spot is nothing like being on the verge of a third division title in a row (despite the revolving door to Milwaukee). How many divisions (or cups for that matter) has Milwaukee achieved in those 7 years? Anyhow, thanks for some added clarity to the query. Perhaps you can suggest to Fenton that less reassignments can lead to a more consistent team, like Hamilton demonstrates.
Good luck to the Admirals, I do hope for their success in the post-season! I believe the 'Clones can grab their second Kelly Cup in 3 years, let's hope so!
Below I'd like to share a little something from the Cyclones fan website that someone else shared... it's worth a chuckle, at least.
Good luck and take care, -Jim

Here's the thing, MKE doesn't really care what happens to us. They are in the middle of trying to make the playoffs and their organization is going to put that ahead of our needs. DEAL WITH IT! Yes it sucks, but MKE making the playoffs is more important to the Nashville/Milwaukee organization than the Cyclones winning another division title or even a Kelly Cup for that matter. The Admirals are in a playoff battle, they have players that are banged up and feel Van Guilder and Cashman will be needed (I'm told via the Admirals Short Shifts Blog that both are expected to play at some point). And the fact is "that is just how it goes in the minors."
The reason Hamilton hasn't had the same issues this season is they haven't sent anyone here aside from Lacroix and Mayer, who, by the way, are on assignment in Hamilton. The Montreal/Hamilton organization has had so many issues early in the season that players never got trickled down to us. There was likelihood of the Cyclones seeing both Dany Masse and Andrew Conboy at some point this season but due to injuries it never happened. So why not email their training staff to tell them that they should do a better job so we can have a better team.
The initial post was funny but going as far to email a teams President on the matter is just rather silly. I feel that his response was very well done and by rebutting by saying that the needs of an AA level team over the needs of a AAA team are more important, well, that's just even sillier. We exist to serve them that is the fact of the situation, deal with it. |

| The players belong to Milwaukee. They can do whatever they want with them. If not for Milwaukee, they never would have been here at all. |

Clones - in response to your "how many times in the 7 years/90 points" question, they won 1 Calder Cup, and were a runner up once. Milwaukee has a good recent history.
Also as jsun51 said, MVG and Reid are both signed by Milwaukee, not by cincinnati. While it does suck for us (and them to a lesser extent), thats their right. Check out the AHL transaction pages for Milwaukee and you will see Nashville constantly calling people up which is the main reason for all of this. |

Uh, I am used to it. I know who owns the players and I know that's how it goes. I don't think the needs of a AA team are more important than the AAA teams and I never suggested that.
Was just having some fun and laughs with the whole revolving door to Milwaukee... ... if that's alright with you, elvis. |
