@Elvis in the spirit of friendly debate

Unlesss I'm mistaken, Mueller was not on our playoff roster. Perhaps he told Weber prior to the roster deadline that he wouldn't come back even if Milw. was eliminated.

When one evaluates the quality of AHL additions, it's not even close. Our so-called "additions" were all players who were borderline AHLers at the very best with the exception of Cashman. Who has been a borderline SPHLer during the playoffs Most every one of the Cyclones who were returned played most of their season in Cincinnati unlike many of the Reading players. During the KC season, we benefited from the Russell, Schmidt and to a lesser extent, Maki. Reading is experiencing that benefit this year.

Aubin has a sorry 2 goals in 24 games for us. His one playoff goal came when the Cyclones were up 7-4 in the 3rd period vs. CHT. I view him primarily as a scorer. I guess I don't see him as very "gritty". I see him easily pushed away from his position in front of the opponent's net and quick to back away from any confrontation. I don't discount his value to the Cyclones in the past, but my loyalty for past performance can't cloud the fact that he's been very ineffective since the trade. Voakes regained his health and had 8 points (3g5a) in 8 games for Bakersfield in the playoffs. I stand by my assessment of this trade. I really doubt that Aubin will be wearing a Cyclones sweater next season after his late season and post season performances here. Note: I have no issue with MA's effort as I think that he's played with great effort; just not very good effectiveness.

I find it hard to swallow that anyone could find Faulkner a player capable of carrying a line while Gordon couldn't. After the trade last year, Gordon had 18 points in 12 games. Seems to be numbers suggestive of being able to hold his own to me. Faulkner had a big 3 goal game in game 2 vs. Elmira, but had all of one goal in all of the remainder of the playoffs. Given that we swept Elmira, it's hard for me to see how any one player's presence had a series-changing effect.
Gordon was traded because Weber looked at his roster prior to the playoffs and decided that it was too young. He felt that additional veteran presence was a necessity. The trade wasn't based upon skill as Gordon easily trumped Faulkner in that category. I will note that Faulkner was one of those players who didn't leave anything on the ice on almost all of his shifts and that is a very valuable asset.

Mueller was indeed left off our playoff roster because Chuck spoke with him and Chris said he planned on calling it a season after MKE was eliminated. The part that gets me fired up about the Mueller situation is that he was signed by Chuck, not MKE.

I did not include Voakes' numbers post trade in my comparison since the players and style of play can differ. I would like to see Aubin score more, but that is just part of why he was brought in. He's doing things that Voakes wasn't doing. I'm not sure which games you've been watching but when there is a player battling in front of the net it's Aubin. When he is off the ice there is little to no net front presence. You can complain about Aubin 2 goals all you want and I'll laugh and call you Cory "the cancer" Urquhart who once said "Assists aren't really points." Aubin has been involved in 11 other goals besides the two he has scored, so I guess by your assessment we should just take those 11 goals off the board. Sure, Voakes managed to stay healthy once traded but National Conference is not as physical; what are the odds he would have stayed healthy had he stayed with the Cyclones?

As far as Faulkner goes, his hat trick in game 2 changed that series. Elmira threw everything they had into that game and the 3 goals by Faulkner canceled it all out. I have a picture of Elmira's goalie after the tying goal in the 3rd and it was a picture of a beaten man and the faces on their bench had a "what more do we have to do" look about them.

It's kind of pointless and a bit foolish to grade a trade after the fact. The only time a trade can be rightly graded is at the time of the trade. The team had needs and Chuck made a deal to assess those needs. Sometimes trades work out, sometimes they come up short but it's unfair to assess them after the fact since there are too many "what ifs." What is we keep Voakes and he gets hurt and is done for the season? What if Aubin averages a point-plus per game? There are just too many variables

"Assists aren't points", hmmmmm. I sorta like that

I'll have to differ with you on your theory about grading trades. The "proof is in the pudding" is the way I look at a trade. The trade itself is a speculation. The performance of the players after the trade is generally measurable and a valid assessment of the trade can be made after a reasonable amount of time.

Overall, Weber's trades have been good. I just don't think that the deals we've discussed have been good ones. The trades involving Wirll, Rudkowski and Morehouse (just to mention a few) have all been very much favorable to the Cyclones. I don't expect every deal to end up in Weber's favor. His past performances in the trading arena(pre Gordon) were so phenominal that I probably hold Weber to a higher standard than I should.

Thanks for the info about Mueller.
