2 refs only works if both of them are on the same page. As dbc said one ref might call something that the other one doesnt, or the ref 100 feet from the play may call a penalty when the other ref is right there and doesnt call anything. It could work to our advantage if a 2nd ref is watching Reading behind the play and, big if here, IF our PP can score. |

I would HOPE, since two refs is not policy and its likely a one game thing, that it will be a Ref and "assistant ref" situation. This series has had a whole lot of stuff going on behind the play, and its not reasonable to expect one ref to catch that. I'll bet that 2nd ref is there strictly to keep that sort of stuff under control.
Maybe I'm giving the league too much credit, but to go straight to two equal refs for one game with no notice is simply not going to work. Hopefully that's not the plan.

Bringing in two refs at this juncture of the series would be nothing short of assinine. This is a showcase game and one should not experiment when all the chips are on the line. If this game really does end up having two refs, then Joe Ernst, Brian McKenna and the ECHL are really putting the MINOR in minor league. Hopefully the information has been misinterpreted and the info is really stating that there are two refs in the arena (in case of injury, training, etc.). The series hasn't been all that rough and from what I've seen, the refs haven't done too bad of a job-although I will say that Kaval seemed a bit overemotional to me last night.
I'm with all the other posters on McKenzie as I was ripping on him big time last night. It irks me to no end to think that he'll be playing a game 7 instead of Kilpatrick although Del Monte might take his place.
All that aside, the comeback will be one for the ages if the boys can earn the 'W' tonight. The balanced scoring-which the team looked like it would have this season-has materialized. Should Lacroix and Van Guilder regain form, that may be too much for Reading to overcome.
Regardless of the outcome, this has been the most exciting post season in the history of Cincinnati hockey in my eyes. 3 series to the limit and the good guys are perfect so far. It's like the Milw. Best beer commericial: "It doesn't get any better than this".

Great, a single ref has problems staying out of the way...now there will be 4 guys skating for team official?
I would hope like catch22 implied, hopefully you have the initial assigned ref to be responsible for penalty calls in and around the puck. A second official responsible for the high sticks, elbows and mauling crap that goes on behind the play. I would imagine that even if the second official doesn't even carry a whistle then play would still be cleaner knowing that more eyes are on you. |

I imagine each ref will stay to their half of the ice, with being the 'eyes in back' of the play as game goes from end to end.
Though not sure why waited till now for the two refs, I personally think that the league is trying to prevent this game from becoming nothing more than a slugfest. The Cyclones for the most part did an oustanding job of not being suckered into retaliation for some of the shnanigans the Reading players were begining to pull midway through the second period and throughout the remainder of the game. |

He left the ice during game 5, and all I remember John saying he did not return to the bench after the intermission. Can't remember which, sorry. I believe he was in the stands last night with the rest of our walking wounded guys. Don't think you are going to get anymore info than that until after the playoffs are over for obvious reasons. |

Regarding the benching of Killer, I have a theory. I will share my theory either when we are eliminated or win the Cup. Sorry, I'm honoring the playoff code on the boards. |

Only one ref on the ice.
McKenzie replaced with DelMonte.
Another banner earned. :)
