The IHL was set up for the Komets to win. Bloomington was financed by a Franke who was instructed not to beat another Fort Wayne Franke. In Bloomingon Coach Skalde just ran the practices and games. He didn't have much say if any on players or trades. Here in Cincinnati he will be given more of an opportunity to build his hockey his way. Lets wait, and see before we cast stones. |

If you're a Cyclones fan, there's a lot to like about Jarrod Skalde being named the new head coach. |

Watched the press conference link and the best thing I heard was Ray Harris saying he had been elected Captain or Ass't captain 11-12 times. That tells me he knows how to manage a locker room and in many ways that is as difficult as hockey skill part of it. Think of the quality individuals who have have worn the C or A here or with your favorite NHL team
My concern is not his ability to coach but finding and signing talent from the undrafted and unsigned universe. Aside from the 6 or so players who come do from the affiliates, he needs to find a dozen or so others that can fit together in his system. I really think that was the real talent Chuck had. Think of the unknowns he signed from small out of the way places who all gelled together last year and beyond. Jarrod can be the best coach around but if he can't find and sign the players he needs to play various roles and work together in a system, his coaching skills won't matter much. Was hoping there would be a couple of returning player signings announced today also |

Everyone just give the guy a chance!! What he did or didn't do in Bloomington doesn't matter because he's not there anymore. Without a doubt Chuck is going to help guide him where he needs it, in terms of finding the same raw talent Chuck used to find.
Skalde has worked with some pretty impressive coaches in his past and I suspect learned a thing or two about motivation, coaching, and style. Give the guy a chance and let's see what he can do behind our bench before we praise him or lynch him.
Everyone is spoiled because of the success Chuck had here. It's almost as if Skalde doesn't get us to at least the Conference Finals he's a joke. Wouldn't you be surprised if he gets knocked out in the first round, then wins three straight Kelly Cups once he gets his feet under him? |

Skalde is going to be a good fit for us.
He's been around the block more than once in his hockey career. He's been an AHL star and an NHL depth player. He's played overseas. He's won a Memorial Cup. He's been assistant captain and captain a dozen times.
Skalde has an enormous wealth of playing experience upon which to draw. He's also now got two years worth of head coaching experience which he can use to his advantage in Cincinnati.
He was in FAR from the ideal situation coaching in Bloomington. In the IHL, there were three solvent teams: Fort Wayne, Muskegon and Port Huron. There were three insolvent teams: Dayton, Flint and Bloomington. Players in Dayton had their electricity shut off in November last year. Flint players went without equipment. So did players in Bloomington. Skalde had no assistant coach working for him. He wasn't able to spend at the salary cap (while other teams spent far above it). He spent far more time on administrative detail (immigration, scheduling, travel, etc.) than he did on his power play. The point is that he was in a situation where he was coaching the fodder so that the cannons (Ft. Wayne, Muskegon and Port Huron) would have something to compete against so they could call themselves a "league".
He's coming into a situation where he will have the support staff (assistant coach, affiliation, front office) which is ESSENTIAL to have in order to compete. He will be in a position to develop into the type of coach that he is capable of being.
I think that the Cyclones did a great job in landing Skalde. He's enthusiastic and a very experienced hockey man. Remember that Weber is going to be working directly with the Cyclones coach. He wouldn't jeopardize his career by giving his approval to a coach who did not meet his standards. |

A key here is that Skalde knows Hockey and Weber is still in the organizational chain. A ton of Weber's success was based on the way he could always find talent and plug it into his system when players were going back and forth to TWO AHL teams. I seriously doubt he'll keep those techniques a secret from Skalde.
Success in Cincinnati still directly benefits Chuck Weber. His ghost will certainly be floating around.
Be patient. Have faith. Support the new coach.

I probably gave a good enough opinion of Jarrod Skalde already, but now that I have researched him a little bit, I am really excited about this pick that Chuck recommended. If Chuck recommended him, he must be in a position to keep us going on the path we are on. Remember what I said: we now are too high profile and we can't turn back now! And I truly think that if Chuck says this guy is good, then we have to trust Chuck's judgement and stand behind Jarrod. Jarrod is our guy now, and I think it was a great smart choice. |
