CINCINNATI, Ohio - Brett Robinson had a pair of goals while Dylan Hunter and Brian O'Hanley each had a goal and and assist to lead the Cincinnati Cyclones (7-5-3-1) to a 5-2 win over the Kalamazoo Wings (7-5-1-1) in front of 4,589 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.

For the first time since November 3, the Cyclones allowed the opposition to net the game's first goal. During a Kalamazoo power play, Jordan Fulton tipped home a blue-line blast that beat Cyclones goalie Marc Cheverie (W, 27 saves, 6-2-1-1) for a 1-0 Wings lead through 20 minutes.

Cincinnati responded in a big way in the second period, scoring a trio of goals in the span of 6:16. Brian O'Hanley blasted home his fourth goal of the season to knot things at one. Then, at the 7:22 mark, Matt Pierce deflected home an O'Hanley slap shot for his fourth tally of the season. Just 40 seconds later, Brett Robinson's shot redirected off of a skate and slid past Wings goalie Riley Gill (L, 32 saves, 4-1-0) for a 3-1 Cyclones cushion after two periods.

Kalamazoo pulled within a goal early in the third when Andrew Fournier batted home a rebound past Cheverie on the power play, making it 3-2. Luckily, Cincinnati was able to keep the foot on the gas by scoring two more goals. Brett Robinson tallied his second of the game when he poked home a loose puck from underneath Gill, extending the Cincinnati lead to 4-2. Dylan Hunter added an empty netter from 60 feet to seal the 5-2 Cyclones victory.

The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
1. Adam Bartholomay (First point as a Cyclonean assist)
2. Brian O'Hanley (2 points, 1 goal and 1 assist)
3. Brett Robinson (2 goals, including the game-winner)

Jarrod Skalde's team will enjoy a few days off before hitting the road for a four-game, three city trip beginning next Wednesday against the Reading Royals. The mid-week game can be heard live on CyclonesHockey.com beginning with Cyclones Warm Up at 6:45pm. The opening face-off from the Sovereign Center is at 7:00pm.

The defending Kelly Cup Champions return to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, December 3 for the opener of a two-game set with the Florida Everblades at 7:30pm. In addition to $1 John Morrell Hot Dogs, the first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a Cyclones poster. It's also Weiner Dog race night, with an intermission race featuring some local Tri-State canines. Discounted ticket packages and single game tickets for the 2010-2011 season are available now. Huge improvements in just about every way. Best home game they've played this year and likely the best game period.

And I'm liking what Skalde appears to be doing with Olson. If he has a bad shift he sits for a while. Good shifts get him more ice time, even on the PK.
It seemed to be working.
Lets hope it keeps working. With his size and reach he could be a force if he gets his positioning and technique working.
I remember when Chara was pretty freakin' painful to watch.

Agreed to all of the above.

The Cyclones are coming together as a pretty complete hockey team right now. The offense is awakening out of its season-long slumber and the defense is very good.

Olson is awesome. Two beatings administered to deserving recipients in two games. He certainly is a better fighter than Benson and probably Johnson as well.

A nice crowd as well.

A very good night for Cyclone hockey.

From what I see, the penalty kill problem is players either leaving
their post by the goalie or not rotating in fast enough. K-wings
second goal was typical, player with the puck is on the left so both
net defenders move to the left and K-wings teammate slides up on the
right for a wide open shot. I was joking about how remote our offense
is of scoring 5 for the City Barbeque discount after the first period.
Does City serve barbeque crow ?

Doesn't look like the same team we all saw a few weeks ago. Both goals giving up were on the Power Play and Cheverie seems to get better with every game.

I too am glad to see our Captain and goalies being protected. Don't look now, but it looks like we have a "Team" forming :<)

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

Olson is effective as a fighter due to that reach. We actually started laughing last night because he was just holding that poor dude out with one arm and pounding him with the other. I don't think the guy landed a solid punch because he simply couldn't reach him.

Nice 70s hockey haircut though.

Agreed... The cohesiveness is forming even with all the lineup changes. The second period rocked last night. Knowing that our boys are capable of such play comforts me to no end.

And yeah, I know elvis will chirp me for sticking with Ben Olson, but he's so damn entertaining. He is getting better, and like Catch22 said, he is learning what to do and not do when Coach sits him for a little while after a crappy shift. I love the moments when they pass him the puck and he has this little "Oh ****" moment and dumps it in around the boards like it bit him or something. LOL

And Jurynek is just an ugly mug with his long greasy hair and bad attitude. I always enjoy the fights our guys have with him though (remembering Zinger knocking spouts of blood from his mouth last season in Kzoo), but I guess he's learned how to take a few punches. LOL

What you do today can change the course of your life far into the future. Today is critical. Today really counts.

Is Jurynec a hockey player or a carnie? I'm pretty sure I saw him running a Tilt O Whirl this summer at a street carnival!

Did anybody catch Pickard goofing around with Roeder after the game?

Both?

He's pretty darned good at getting his butt kicked. I'm fairly positive he never landed anything on Olson, and Minella dismantled him. He needed most of the 5 to put his pads back on.

Olson flat tore him up last night. Ben's punches looked slow and unorthodox, but I know they weren't, he was very effective and landed nearly every punch thrown. Did Jurynec even return to the ice after the Olson tangle? He was on the bench, but I don't remember if he went back out.

The only punches I saw Jurynec land on Olson were on the pads, and those were very few.

I didn't have a great view of the Minella scrap.

I will say this about Jurynec tho.. After the Minella fight Jurynec patted him on the back and said "good scrap". I dont know if he knew it was Minellas first fight and said it because of that or just out of respect but I thought it was classy for Jurynec to do that

While Jurynec has been known to fight, fighting isn't really why Minella is here. Minella is a solid kid and he more than held his own in that scrap. Chris finishes his checks and I'm sure last night won't be his last pugilistic endeavour.

@Lisa - Benn is growing on me, although I'm still not sure about having the team's enforcer as a Dman. Benn has picked up his game and a few games back even made a hell of a job getting back to break up a play that could have been a great scoring chance (I think it was education in hockey day). It started under Chuck, and it's a key to getting guys to play here, is that guys get a chance to actually play and not just fight. From Avery Wilson to Chris Morehouse and all those in between, they all got a chance to play. It looks like Coach Skalde is keeping that going. If Benn's game keeps progressing he'll be a serviceable member of the D-core.
