CINCINNATI, Ohio - Marc Cheverie turned aside 27 shots while Dylan Hunter, Dustin Sproat, Brock Sheahan, and Christiaan Minella each registered two points to help the Cincinnati Cyclones (10-8-5-1) shutout the Bakersfield Condors (8-13-1-0) by a 5-0 score in front of 2,048 at U.S. Bank Arena on Tuesday night. It was Cheverie's ECHL-best third shutout of the season
Dylan Hunter struck first for Cincinnati, at 12:46, when he backhanded a shot through the legs of Josh Tordjman (L, 23 saves, 4-8-1-0) for a 1-0 Cyclones lead. Cincinnati added another goal less than three minutes later, at 15:25, when Mathieu Aubin let loose a cannon blast that beat Tordjman over the glove-side shoulder for his team-leading seventh goal of the season and a 2-0 cushion heading into the first intermission.
Hunter gave the Cyclones a 3-0 lead at 6:46 of the second period when he slid another backhander home for his second of the night. He becomes the fourth Cyclones player to register a multi-goal game.
In the third period Cincinnati continued to pour it on; Christiaan Minella buried his fifth goal of the season on a precise wrist shot from just inside the right circle, making it 4-0. Then, with less than a minute to play in regulation, Chris Clackson tipped home another Minella shot for the 5-0 advantage. Marc Cheverie(W, shutout, 27 saves, 9-4-2-1) and the 'Clones would go on to win by the same score.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows: 1. Marc Cheverie (27 saves for Cincinnati, third shutout of the season) 2. Dylan Hunter (2 goals for Cincinnati) 3. Brock Sheahan (2 assists for Cincinnati)

Well, everyone except Chevy took the first 10 minutes of the game off, but after that it was OK. But honestly, Bakersfield wasn't very good. We didn't play great, but still killed them.
Props to Big Benn for going Olde Tyme Hockey and pulling a McSorley when the bad guys started going goon at the end of the game. Thats how you do it. It's not that Sproat can't defend himself, it's that we don't want him to.
And does anyone know how bad Brett's injury is? It looked bad from where we were sitting, and he was obviously really hurt.

Could have very easily scored 8 or 10 goals tonight. Clones missed several good scoring chances. I think we played well enough to win but not against a good team. Way too many odd-man rushes tonight. Defense did a descent job of covering up their mistakes and Chevy stayed calm and held his position well.
Hats off to Olsen for standing up for Sproat. It's unfortunate that he got an instigator for it though. I think since it occurred with under 5 minutes to go that carries an automatic 1 game suspension. With Robinson hurt and Olsen possibly suspended, we look a little shorthanded this Friday. |

Its a tough price to pay, but Olsen absolutely did the right thing, especially after Lizon had tried to start something with Sheahan.
And how the hell did Lizon not get an instigator for THAT? I'm still trying to figure out how Sheahan got a double minor for getting face washed and his helmet yanked off. Sheahan was pretty clearly trying to figure that out as well.

| Did anyone catch the guy getting kicked out on the attacking end, penalty box side of rink? He was waving his arm at the ice. Sure did want to hold on to that beer though. |

The drunk was in our section and yes the beer made it from bottom to top with no movement !! Our area was full of drunks and some of the oddest looking fans I have ever seen . That was the best played game for us this year. Maybe Bakersfield had a late flight in and came straight from the airport but mainly we played the entire game. Long shots on goal scored the second one instead of our usual carry the puck in and not even get a shot off. Only "selfish" play I saw was when the TEAM possibly wasted a 5 on 3 powerplay trying to get Hunter his hat trick. With a 4-0 lead, I would expect nothing less from a team ! Olson was a blurr coming in to settle any goon action in the end. The first "fight" (or dance) was so lame even the fans booed it. I hate staged fights and that is what it looked like. Justin Johnson was the master of that. If a fight doesn't start in 5 seconds, it only looks staged. |

| I liked how the idoiot from Bakersfield who fought Olson at the end of the game flexed to the crowd as he was skating off. I really hope someone sitting by the tunnel reminded him of the scoreboard as he was leaving. |

Agreed, that it wasn't the most spectacular play we've done, but a W is a W and I'll take it. I feel kind of selfish being so blah about a 4-0 shut out, but seriously, it was Bako. They lost two games over the weekend to Toledo. How good can they be?
The first 10 minutes did look like crap. I was sitting there thinking, jeez, this is going to be a long evening. But luckily, the boys came together and started actually playing some hockey. It was good that Chevy played well and stayed calm. That improves his December numbers drastically.
The DeLory fight was blah. I'm not one for staged fights either. They seemed pretty evenly matched I guess which is why nothing really happened. But even though Benny went down first in the fight at the end, it was spectacular. Rullier was going after Sproater (even though a Bako fan says to the contrary) and Benn comes rushing in from who knows where to take care of it. Awesome... Like Catch22 said, it's not like Sproater can't defend himself (altough that guy was huge) but we don't need our skill players taking fights like that. It's Olson's job, so let him do it. It's not our fault the guy picked on Sproat while Olson was on the ice. Serves him right anyway for trying to start something with someone obviously not a fighter.
And hats off to Clackson for a nice City BBQ goal last night, in addition to being scrappy and entertaining the hell out of me. That typewriter-like checking he did on that guy down at our end was fantastic and hilarious. I wish he'd do it every game. LOL |

Well, if Brett is hurt as bad as I think he is we are going to see a whole lot more of Delory. And I'd like to see better play than we got last night. If you are big and slow (and he is), bodies need to be smacking the glass and flopping on the ice and you'd damned well better be parked in front of the opposing goalie in the offensive end. Otherwise you aren't contributing anything and we might as well be on the PK every time you are out there.
Olsen got beat a couple times (again) last night, and took one bad hooking penalty as a result, but he's doing much better than he was doing earlier in the year and seems to have fully embraced the classic enforcer role. He is very much adding value at this point, and is becoming a fan favorite. Now, if he'll learn how to crank a screamer from the point with that long stick of his we'll really be in business.

| I thought the crowd last night was really amazing. When I arrived I was not anticipating over 3,000 folks. And even when I saw that number I still could not believe it. A great showing on a weekday that was able to see a great victory. |

I remember just 3 years ago when a Tuesday night with wind chill in the teens and an out of conference opponent would be lucky to draw 1000-1200. This really shows how much the base has grown.
Agree about the hating the first fight and loving the last fight. Same with goals--three goalie errors and then the last two were brilliant. I am really starting to like Chris Minella. Works hard and can skate. Great one timer from him right off a nice face off win by Clarkson for #4 goal. Loved the last goal too as Fast rather than having the upteenth shot blocked from the point for us, actually looked up and sent a nice crisp pass to Clarkson alone at the side of the net for an easy tip in. Would love to see more goals from heads up plays like those two |

I'm sure the Condors had to spend some time with ice packs last night and today. Not so much from blocking shots than from our guys simply shooting right at them from the point. I stopped counting at 10.
I can't get over the feeling, watching this team, that we are trying to force a system without the proper personnel for it. We're more than 20 games in and still often look out of sync, especially on the PP. Honestly, it's getting kind of old and no fun to watch.
And so far Skalde has been lucky in terms of call ups. Our lineup has been the most stable I've seen yet. I'm hanging in there, but really I'm not too happy with what I've seen so far. This *should* be a really good team and has the potential to be murdering this division, but so far the are just mediocre more often than not. Sometimes just plain awful.
Just my opinion.

I saw some nice improvements in the home squad last night. First and foremost, they blocked more shots than I can recall in recent memory. It's always nice to take some heat off Chevy. And they appeared to be more physical and made the Condors pay the price for the puck.
The other improvement I saw was better cycling and puck possession in the offensive and neutral zones. I was really happy to see less sloppy turnovers. However, as commented by others before, the odd man rushes need to be dealt with.
Looking forward to Friday. The Cyclones are in a great position to pick up a couple more points against a not-very-good Walleye team. |

| The Cyclones looked a lot better last night then they have all season. Hopefully the team is starting gel, and will go on a long winning streak. |
