Former Cyclone weekender Mark Dekanich made is NHL debut tonight coming in to relieve Anders Lindback. Dekanich is the first former Cyclone to make his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators since the team restarted in 06, Greg Stewart, David Desharnais, and JT Wyman were all with Montreal.

The Norfolk Admirals are on a break until December 26 and Lightning GM Steve Yzerman figured, why let Desjardins sit around and stuff his face with turkey when he can get in some practice time with the Lightning instead.

Although Mike Smith and Dan Ellis have been hardly stellar in net for the Lightning this season, neither is going to be replaced by Desjardins in the near future. Unless Smith or Ellis get hurt, he'll be back in Norfolk by the time I watch the Lightning play Boston December 28 at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Well, Tampa Bay goalie Mike Smith injured his left knee in this morning's pre-game skate. Desjardins is the backup for tonight's game against Carolina.

Yzerman said it will be up to coach Guy Boucher if and when Desjardins gets his first NHL start.

A start for Desjardins would help the Lightning, too, as he is on a one-year contract.

"He's played well in the American league and at some point he has to get an opportunity in the NHL," Yzerman said. "We have to figure out what we're doing with him as well."
