CINCINNATI, Ohio - Defenseman T.J. Fast buried his first game-winning goal of the season just 41 seconds into overtime to give the Cincinnati Cyclones (15-13-5-2) a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings (14-15-2-1) in front of 2,661 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. It was Cincinnati's fourth consecutive victory.
Cincinnati jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame; Matheiu Aubin opened the scoring at 7:20 when he wristed home his team-leading ninth goal of the season during a Cyclones power play. Then, at 12:26, Scott Lehman received a Chris Clackson pass and sent a shot past Wings goalie Ryan Nie (L, 24 saves, 10-10-1-2) for the two goal cushion at the first intermission.
The Wings cut the lead in half during a power play of their own as Patrick Asselin tucked in his 11th goal of the season past Cyclones netminder Chet Pickard (W, 24 saves, 3-6-2-0) at 8:15. Kalamazoos Darryl Lloyd then followed with the game-tying goal midway through the third period to knot the score at two, forcing the game into overtime for the fourth time in this season series.
Luckily, the extra session didn't last long as, just 41 seconds in, T.J. Fast carried the puck from coast to-coast and potted his second goal in as many games to send Cincinnati to its fourth consecutive win 3-2 the final.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows: 1. T.J. Fast (Game-winning goal for Cincinnati) 2. Chet Pickard (24 saves for Cincinnati) 3. Darryl Lloyd (Goal for Kalamazoo)
The defending Kelly Cup Champions will continue their brief two-game home stand this Friday night when they welcome in the first place Wheeling Nailers to U.S. Bank Arena at 7:30pm. The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Twister Bobblehead. Discounted ticket packages and single game tickets for the 2010-2011 season are available now. | Seemed to me that the team really has changed their offensive scheme. Didn't see much three man cycling last night but rather two men down low and the third forward moving around in the slot looking for a pass, and when the puck went to the points a lot of attempted screens. Even when someone had some freedom on the boards they tried to move into the slot to shoot. All three goals came from the slot even the second goal where Lehman was smart enough to look up before he shot and moved in another ten to fifteen feet when the sea parted. Hope this continues as seems to not only fit our skill set better but is much more entertaining to watch. Great move by Fast on the OT goal to move to the center and get behind the screen. |

Tonight will be our first game since the ugliness vs. Toledo after Christmas. I'm really really hoping to see a good effort at home tonight. It's been a while.
