CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2010 Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have acquired forwards Dan Eves and Samson Mahbod from the South Carolina Stingrays in exchange for forward Ryan Del Monte.

Eves, a third year pro, joins the Cyclones after playing 26 games this season with the South Carolina Stingrays. During that stretch, he posted seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) and 19 penalty minutes (PIM). A year ago, the six-foot, 210-pound forward finished fourth on the Trenton Devils in scoring, collecting 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in 59 games to go along with a team second-most 102 PIM. Prior to embarking on his professional career in 2008, the Lake Orion, Michigan native played four seasons at Lake Superior State University (CCHA). In 105 collegiate games, Eves amassed 63 points (29 goals, 34 assists) and 229 penalty minutes. During his junior campaign, he also earned the Soo Blueliner Award, given to the Lakers top defenseman.

Mahbod, a Montreal, Quebec native, began his rookie season with the Elmira Jackals earlier this year, appearing in nine games scoring two goals and adding four assists. He was then dealt to South Carolina, where he collected 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 16 games. The 22-year-old spent the past five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A year ago, the five-foot-nine, 165-pound right wing dressed in 52 games with Prince Edward Island and led the team with 64 points (20 goals, 44 assists). During the 2008-09 campaign, Mahbod netted a career-best 30 goals and 49 assists for 79 points in 66 games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs and skated in 19 postseason contests burying 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists). His efforts helped the Voltigeurs claim the league championship before falling in the semifinals of the Memorial Cup.

Now in his third season, Del Monte played in a total of 56 regular season games as a member of the Cyclones. He also skated in 21 of Cincinnati's 24 Kelly Cup Playoff contests last year en route to the Kelly Cup Championship. While in the Queen City, the Mississauga, Ontario native earned 34 regular season points (11 goals, 23 assists) and four more tallies during the 2010 postseason run.

The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena TONIGHT at 7:30pm when they continue their three game series with the Everblades. It will be Pink in the Rink Night presented by Pure Romance. The Cyclones will skate on pink ice and wear specialty jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Patty Brisben Foundation. Discounted ticket packages and single game tickets for the 2010-2011 season are available now. For more information, call 513.421.PUCK (7825) or visit CyclonesHockey.com.

Maybe the Clones can sign former Cincinnati Mighty Duck Jason Williams who was released from a PTO with the Connecticut Whale. If I was Jason I would not but with the changes happening you never know what would happen anymore. It is sad watching the championship players being dealt but its a business. Skalde needs to do something and I do not think he is doing the right things for this orginazation but I will reserve complete judgment for a later date because I will see how these two players go, they look like good potential but that is past years stats.

Like I said before, we weren't going to make the playoffs with
the old team of underachievers, so let's go out and get some players
who may want to play. I liked DelMonte but to get someone, you have
to give up someone. I give a thumbs up for making a move. Now if Cody
Rudkowsky could be found ....

I have to agree here. I really, really liked Minella and Del Monte. I liked Sam as well, but the team certainly wasnt winning and there has been nothing to suggest that they were going to start.

I dont know how these trades will play out, but how bad could they really hurt us? I know a playoff spot is up for grabs, but I really dont think we were going to get that spot with the way things have been going. Maybe this can be a good thing.

It seemed to me that DelMonte wanted out. And if that is the case it is nice that we got something in return for losing him.

Eves can potentially (and thats a big word) fill Minella's role and Mahbod is small but looks like he can score if he's put in the right situation. Maybe he'll give us some speed up the wing, which we have been lacking.

I'm very OK with this. Seems like a good move.

ONe thing is clear from this weeks transactions; Skalde is set in the style of hockey that he wants to coach, rather and tweak his systems to fit the roster he's changing the roster. IF it works, great. If it doesn't, there won't be anyone to point at but guy behind the bench.

Adding some scoring is great but if the defense doesn't get better, they're still in trouble. Just ask the Washington Capitals how concentrating entirely on offense works out; it might be great in the regular season, but it's defense that wins championships.

Don't underestimate one thing with the addition of some speed. I can't
believe any opponent was worried about a breakaway, so opposing teams
had defensemen playing more offense than usual. If teams have to respect
a possible breakaway then defensemen will be back on their heels and
maybe easier for ours to get control of the puck near the goal.

Hard to say for sure, but it certainly looks like Mahbod is the fastest skater for the good guys.

Once these guys get some playing time together there *should* be some nice breakaway chances. Something we haven't seen much of.
