Well, plans changed and we couldn't be there tonight. Following it online instead.

Pierro Zabotel, as suspected, is wearing Minella's number. Hopefully the crowd gave him a nice welcome.

And unfortunately (for us) it looks like Olson and O'Hanley are still in the A. As a result it looks like we have a goon dressed in pink.

1-0 early. Hopefully the boys can take this one and hopefully I can watch "The New Cyclones" tomorrow night.

OK, I need someone that was there to tell me if Florida had an awful night or if our boys just went insane.

Two of the 3 new guys aren't even there yet and CPZ has only figured in one goal.

Sounds like we badly need Benn right here at the end though.

Yeah, Florida was bad tonight, but I thought the Clones played pretty well. They definitely needed a win like that. Florida gave up two goals because they were trying to fight as opposed to playing.

54 SOG for the Clones. Thats amazing! They kept the pressure on all game long.

I'll probably be hung by my toenails for saying this but here's my thoughts on the recent transactions & the game tonight. I understand from a business point of view that you need to make changes to keep profits up and from the fans point of view it sucks when trades are made on our favorite players. Tonight I think the changes have been good. We'll just have to see how the rest of the month goes. I also felt that Paul McIlveen played very well. Maybe these changes are what the Cyclones have neeeded.

Remember, this is just my opinion! Take it or leave it!

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

Other than Hunter, guys were shooting when they had chances. CPZ's goal was a sniper's goal. He just fired a laser over the goalie's shoulder on a 2 on 1. Mcllveen also scored while shooting on a 2 on 1. Amazing how this shooting stuff works!

CPZ also showed some real good speed on a penalty kill which almost resulted in a great scoring chance. The PK looked better than it has forever. The one goal against on the PK was stoppable.

It's only one game, but there has been enough player movement in the past week or so to change the dynamics of the team. A very, very encouraging start for the new line up. To say the least.

If I were Skalde, I wouldn't allow Roeder or Sheahan to carry the puck deep into the offensive zone. Neither one's shot can break a pane of glass and each is a very mediocre passer. Their combined 3 goals and 14 assists in 85 combined games suggests that offense ain't either's forte. With a goalie as shaky as Pickard this team can't afford two offensively-challenged undersized defensemen operating under the delusion that they are the second coming of Bobby Orr.

I'm anxious to see tonight's game. Florida threw in the towel in the 3rd period and I'm sure that their coaching staff won't let that lack of effort go unnoticed.

First off, in defense of Florida goalie Janus, that man deserves a
star of the game for the first two periods. Second, thank you whoever
is responsible for these moves if the team keeps playing like they did
both last night and even Wednesday's loss. I saw more spirit, more hustle
and more shooting in such a long time. Pickard finally did something last
night that has been bothering me since he came here. Last night I saw a
goalie down in a crouch when the puck was in his end. Most times he stays
upright until the last minute and kept getting beat with stoppable shots.
Last night he was ready and actually looked like an AHL level goalie.
Give us that same effort till the end of the year and we most likely
make the playoffs and have a chance in the first round.

A very encouraging and impressive performance by the boyz, but one game does not a season make. They had Florida's number in Florida, and the wins (and losses) will really matter against our own division where they have struggled (or been killed by as in Wheeling). And face it, Florida looked downright awful. Tonight will be an interesting game to say the least.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

Yeah guys, we've already gotten excited over one win multiple times this year only to have our hopes dashed within a day or two by getting blown out.

As far as "the new lineup" it wasn't even complete yet last night. There is still much to be learned, starting with a repeat performance tonight.

Is it possible that both our remaining boys and Zabotel have had a fire lit under them by the trades?
ABSOLUTELY.
But at this point I need to see it consistently before I become a true believer. I've gotten my hopes up too many times already this year.

Great effort but neither Florida or SC's style is to put a body on the puck carrier but rather back up and take away the passing lanes etc. When we are given the space to skate we can be effective. The key will be how we fare with the new lineup against K-Zoo and Toledo who are on the body before the puck carrier can move. They slow the game down to a grinding game and our lineup hasn't done well against that style all year. Lets see how we do this Wed/Fri at home against Toledo.

Games the last two weeks of the year are all against Toledo and K-Zoo and will be the first round of the "playoffs" for us.

Agree with HRC, CPZ's goal last night was a scorer's goal. He picked his spot and fired it home and used the other rusher as a decoy. Also kudos to Kattelus on Cala's first goal. He was forechecking alone against three players while we were changing lines and instead of being happy with just disrupting things while we changed, he fought two players off the puck behind the net and made a great pass to the slot to Cala who was just coming on the ice. A+ for that effort.

Don't know if anyone noticed but on our last PP, Orlando was sent out for the first shift and just "parked" himself in front of the goalie. It was comical watching the FL players try and move him out. He was like a rock. Interesting pp option if he dresses once the two SC players arrive.

Florida is an easy team to game plan for, they are all about transition and creating odd man situations. If you take that away from them they struggle. They look clueless trying to play 5 on 5 defense in the zone.

The Cyclones did a great job of clogging up the neutral zone which stifled Florida's transition game and therefore their offense. The FNGs did shoot the puck in transition more for the Cyclones, but more importantly those shots were on net; too many times earlier in the season guys were shooting but missing the net big time.

Besides clogging the neutral zone, the Cyclones, also dominated the time of possession and by the later stages of the 3rd Florida's frustration was showing.

Pickard played a strong game, as Weber used to say "he stopped all the shots he was supposed to and a few of the ones he wasn't." There was a particular leg pad save early in the 3rd when the game was still close that could have been a momentum swinger had it gone in. Instead, the Cyclones go down and score a few secs later and before Florida knew it they were pressing and the game was blown open. Chet still had some rebound issues but the D was much better at keeping bodies on guys and getting to the rebounds 1st.

All in all, the game wasn't that much different than the one which the Cyclones lost on Weds when they carried the play. The differences being the ability to capitalize on their opportunities and they were a bit more vigilant in front of Pickard. I would expect Tonight's game to be played in a similar manner. The question is how things will pan out when the Cyclones play a team with a better defense and/or a multifaceted offense.

I'm interested in seeing what Mahbod will bring. If I'm remembering correctly (and I might not be) he was the fastest guy in the building the last time we played SC, and speed is something we haven't had much of this year.

I'm happy to hear that CPZ got a sniper shot in his first game with us. That's a great sign he's bringing something we need to the party.

But as mentioned, we didn't have much trouble with Florida before the trades, so we need to keep the jury sequestered for a little while longer.

One thing is certain, if Skalde made the calls on these trades, and he gets much needed speed and scoring with CPZ and Mahbod while backfilling the energy and physicality of Minella and DelMonte with Kattelus and Eves he's taken a HUGE step towards showing that he can do what is needed to be a winner.
This has the POTENTIAL to be great trades for us.

Was I imagining this, or was Lehman playing the role of agitator? He certainly had some guys frustrated.

I was thinking the same exact thing last night.

With all of the skirmishes last night I was also starting to question if other teams have heard that Olson has been called up and aren't too worried about any sort of retaliation. That cheap hit on our captain next to the bench before the end of the first period just can't go unpunished.
