News and Notes Feb 11 C David Desharnais is getting a chance to show what he can do as Canadiens coach Jacques Martin becomes more disillusioned with the play of Scott Gomez. Desharnais, who is only 5-foot-7, has been fighting the notion that he's too small to play in the NHL. He was the leading scorer in the American Hockey League when the Canadiens recalled him on New Year's Eve, and he has played well enough that the Canadiens have told him that he will finish the season in Montreal. Yahoo Sports
THIS IS THE END OF ANY ARGUMENT FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR ON DD AND MOVING BACK AND FORTH FROM THE A TO THE NHL.

Agreed. We'll have all summer to argue about where he'll be playing next season. :)
I'm not the only one Desharnais has proven wrong. There were 30 NHL teams that passed when they had the chance to draft him. There were 30 NHL teams that passed on the opportunity to sign him as an undrafted free agent after he finished his junior career in the QMJHL in 2006-07. There were 30 NHL teams that passed on the opportunity to sign him as a free agent after he led the ECHL in scoring in 2007-08. He attended Montreal's training camp as a free agent in 2008, but again wasn't offered a contract and began the season in Hamilton on an AHL deal. Finally, two months into the 2008-09 season, Montreal signed him to his first NHL contract. But in Cyclonesland, I was the only one. |

| Next Year is a new year with new situations, if DD plays well for the rest of the year hopefully things will work towards his advantage. Hopefully DD will take advantage of this situation and work his way towards a full time full year gig, but Donnie we will all just wait and see. Look at Jason Williams ex Cincy Duck I thought he was in the NHL somewhere and the Whale picked him up on a PTO but he has since signed on with the Dallas Stars. Goes to show you can lose a place in the lineup of any NHL team no matter who you are well known or just starting out. |

Williams has played 400-plus NHL games over a 10-year pro career. He's been a useful player for the teams he's played for during his NHL career, but never someone that was a lock to make the team in training camp.
Another ex-Duck, Tim Brent, is getting his first real opportunity in the NHL with Toronto. Injuries held him back earlier in his career. Some will look at his stats and come away unimpressed, but he's been a solid third-line center for the Maple Leafs, kills penalties, takes important faceoffs, and contributes offensively -- someone that will score 10-14 goals a year. |
