CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2010 Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that forward Paul McIlveen has been dealt to the Utah Grizzlies completing the September 22 trade when the Cyclones acquired Dylan Hunter.
After being dealt to Cincinnati from the Greenville Road Warriors, McIlveen logged nine games in a Cyclones jersey and earned eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) with six penalty minutes. The fourth-year forward has posted 131 total points (56 goals, 75 assists) and 133 penalty minutes in 214 games as a professional.
The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena this Wednesday, March 2, when they welcome in the Reading Royals for the final time in 2010-11. It will also be the final Wet Wednesday of the season with $1 PBR and Miller High Life flowing all night long. 2010-11 single game and discounted group tickets are available now. 2011-12 season tickets go on sale to the general public on March 5. So we basically get absolutely nothing? Hunter is in the AHL and will probably stay there. McIllveen could play circles around him anyway, IMO.
Oh well, its not as if we were going to do anything in the post season anyway, and with deals like that, is it any wonder? Oh wait, our playoff hopes just went to Utah! |

per the Coach's show this evening:
It had to be a forward going to Utah which was stipulated in the deal. It could not be an affiliated player obviously and the Cyclones could "protect" 2 players Utah really wanted Mathieu Aubin but as he managed to get signed by Lake Erie he was untouchable for the deal. He also wanted to get either Sproater or Ehgo; Skalde knew Ehgo probably would not have reported so he protected him and Sproater is just too valuable given that he plays in all situations so he was "protected" as well. That basically left Mahbod, Eves and McIlveen and it was Utah's choice.
Since players on IR can't be traded Utah's coach even asked for medical reports on Reynolds, Pierce and Robinson.
Apparently this trade was debated and argued in the league offices and Skalde believes it could lead to changes in the CBA regarding the grey area that is "future considerations"
Basically, I blame Nashville. When NSH traded Ian McKenzie for an AHL level D man (not inherently bad by itself) it created a need for an AHL level forward. Hunter was the guy they wanted. At the time the contracts of the players involved were ECHL deals we had to make the deal to get NSH/MKE their depth forward.
*Edited to read "Egho probably would NOT have reported" not that he would have. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

I try haha
Apparently this deal was a nightmare for the League and the teams. "Future Considerations" can be just about anything and in this case Utah was trying to take the bank. I can understand why Utah wanted "futures," Motherwell had all but signed with Bridgeport (one of Kzoo's affiliates), Utah needed to make sure they got something from the deal in the event Brett plays the whole year in the AHL (which has been the case) Since the Cyclones held his ECHL rights we were the ones that had to make the deal to assure that Brett would be assigned to Utah in the event of a reassignment from Bridgeport. The trade also, kept Motherwell from potentially being assigned to Kalamazoo, although this would have been unlikely because Cincinnati would have still held his rights had the trade not been made and the Wings would have had to compensate the 'Clones in some way other than free happy meals.
The issue lies in that "future considerations" are just that. There is little agreed upon terminology as to what the "future considerations" will be. Sure, Motherwell never play for Utah this season, but Hunter has only played 24 games with the Cyclone, so what is fair when it comes to those "futures?" Moreover, Hunter could have made the Admirals roster out of camp with the potential of not getting assigned here at all. If this would have occurred the Cyclones would have still owed Utah something.
It's frustrating to lose McIlveen for sure. He was playing lights out for us, but looking at his numbers over his career, I doubt he would have maintained the almost point per game avg he had going in his 9 games with the 'Clones. He's had a couple fo breakout years but seems to be a .6 ppg guy in my opinion. Also, when you figure that we dealt Clackson to Greenville to bring him in, one could say we essentially dealt Clackson to fulfill the futures with Utah.
It was crazy listening to Skalde talk about how this deal went down and when I heard what Utah was trying to pull, losing McIlveen sucks, but it could have been much, much worse. |

Utah: Add Paul McIlveen, F traded from Cincinnati, 3/1 Delete Paul McIlveen, F suspended by team, 3/1
Anybody know anything about this? Is it a failed to report suspension? |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
