We need some type of defense! You cant blame a guy like hom for hitting someone in the game last night and getting the none boarding penalty. We have to have something to try and get this team motivated cause we all know Skalde isnt motivating them.

Why is Brock Sheahan here? he's done nothing... Why is Musslewhite here? He's done nothing. Suter, Schwartzbauer, Youngclaus, CPZ all did nothing last night... The list goes on and on of guys who could be questioned as to why they are on this team. One guy doesnt win or lose a game a team does and last night the whole team sucked to put it bluntly.

Long story short, Liambas is a symptom of the problem. Not the problem itself. Liambas didn't even indirectly cause the loss to Toledo or to Kalamazoo today. However, thinking a three time suspended goon who averages 6.7 minutes in the box a game is somehow going to help the situation is laughable.

I place the blame on the coaching staff. The offensive systems overly rely on defenseman contribuations to work. The defensemen struggle to contribute to the offense and maintain some sort of defensive presence. Odd man rushes occur far too often and our (New, rookie, lost... you fill in the adjective) goalies are ill suited to deal with the situation.

Our powerplay is anemic and our penalty kill is porous. How many PK goals have come on tip ins on the far post where there is no defender within 20 feet? Way too many.

The Cyclones previous "enforcers" could hit, fight, draw penalties and most importantly play the game. (Okay, maybe not Jimmy Bonneau). Justin Johnson had a great offensive year when he was here in addition to his "role". I was not a fan of Hans Benson last year but you could see the intimidation factor when he was on the ice and he contributed in the hundreds of little ways, especially during the playoffs without having to drop the gloves or take stupid penalties.

Our defensive corps for the most part are halfway decent. Yeah, we've had call ups and replacements but the system the're playing doom them to failure. The system were playing requires above average defensemen and we simply don't have those type of players. So we play the same system we have since October and wonder why the losses mount. It didn't work then, it certainly isn't working now.

I had some hope when the trades were made; Mahbod is very impressive and Eves is certainly no slouch. Unfortuanely they aren't enough to make a difference.

Like everyone I'm frustrated by what I see out on the ice. We should be better than what we are yet other than a few trades that have offered a glimmer of hope this team has not changed one bit since day one of the 10-11 season.

Less than someone else at this point because of his past, but we AT LEAST need to shelve the peanut gallery and wait for his first 5 minute major or misconduct.

Maybe I missed it, but did you guys call for Lehman's head when he kicked someone earlier this year? How about when DelMonte swung his stick at a head last year?
Did you decide to abandon the team THEN?
No?
Then shut up about Liambas now.

It's a message board. A message board of Fankhausers that think they are Chuck Weber at that.. Shelving the peanut gallery is a sure fire way of having this site go the way of the other cincy hockey message board that shall not be named.

You can't deny that it's a controversial signing at a questionable time in the season. It's going to fall back on preference to the type of game an individual wants to see. I'm not in the Fangers camp of boycotting the only professional product in town because of Liambas, but I'm not going to stop being vocal about concern and caution with the kid. I don't see how a big-hitter that's known to cross the line is going to somehow kick-start our lackluster offense. I agree with you 100%, nay 200%, that the machine is failing. We just disagree on the replacement parts. The problem IS bigger than Liambas, but it's quickly approaching the point of no return.

I know it's 'Do or Die' time, but this Fankhauser is longing for the return of our goon that doesn't seem so cartoonishly mismatched with the career minor-leaguers. I'm guessing Liambas' presence doesn't bode well for his return. Are you there Benn? It's me, Apocalypse.

Hey. It's sad but true.
I heard boards rattle for 3 hits by the home team Saturday. All 3 were Liambas.

If we're are going to play .500 hockey and not make the playoffs we can at least keep the crowd engaged with some hits and fights.
And if you don't think this is important... Get a clue.
The team won't last long playing sub .500 hockey, not fighting and not raising bruises on the bad guys.

Like it or not, thats part of the game.

As I've mentioned before, March is make or break at this level. You have to deal with your own IR as well as AHL/NHL injuries that result in call ups. Every year some teams break at this point. Here, we haven't seen that recently. Weber was a master at surviving hell month.
This year... We are one of the teams that is breaking. We needed at least 3 points this weekend and we got zero against 3 division opponents (one of which is probably now dressing the mascot due to player losses).

You guys can rip me all you want, but it's a matter of principle for me, and I'm not going to apologize for it. I was critical of him with the OHL hit, critical that the IHL allowed him to play there after the OHL suspension. Be pretty hypocritical of me to all of sudden be supportive of him just because he's playing on the home town team.

I've been a critic of skalde since he was hired, but I've still attended about the same number of games that I usually do, but I simply won't support letting this guy play again. It's just a matter of time before he snaps.

I'm planning on boycotting the playoffs. I am willing to bet no one shows up for playoff games at USBA.

That's understandable.
Just please don't be one of those people that uses a player you don't like as an excuse for everything that happens. Blame him when he takes a stupid 5 for intent to injure, he deserves it then.

But again, I didn't see any hate towards DelMonte for stick swinging or Lehman for kicking or for the 1000s of elbows McKenzie threw, so I'm not sure where the hate for this kid comes from.
Yes, he cracked a head open, but I swear to god if I'd been the ref I wouldn't have even called a penalty. That penalty was due to the shocking result, not the actual mechanics of the hit (which appears to have been totally legal).

I'm choosing to give the kid a chance until if/when he decides to get his Sgroi on. Until that point I'll cheer his legal hits and enjoy watching opposing defensemen play tentatively on the boards.
The minute he does something totally out of line I'll be the first one calling to get him out of here. I just haven't seen anything yet, either in his first games here or in his youtube past.
I actually think his biggest downside is his rep at this point. He'll draw some unfair calls on legal hits just because he is who he is. Some people think that already happened Saturday.

22--we disagree on whether his past should be enough to keep him off the roster. We also disagree about Saturday's call. Lets then just concentrate on the quoted statement above which I can agree with. My question then is that if you and i both think his rep will get him some bad calls, why would we bring in a player at this point of the season who will get some of those bad calls? What does he bring that offsets such unfair calls on a team that is next to last ( by one tenth of a percentage point) in the league in PK?. Instead of asking why like I am, you ask why not- which is legit question-- but I think your quote above answers your own question.

Well, since we have consistently had guys like that (Benson, Johnson and Morehouse come immediately to mind) I just don't see it as a big deal.

Benson had a ridiculous amount of calls due to who he is. I don't remember anyone wanting him cut because of it.

As I mentioned before, this is the time of year where part of the coach's job is to get breathing bodies on the bench. Apparently either Skalde really likes this kid or maybe this is just the best he can do.

And what the hell, if you can't consistently win, bring in the Hanson brothers. ;)

Liambas had 2 or 3 pretty good shots on Saturday and a few more during th Kzoo game... If those wouldve been goals this conversation wouldnt be going on. He was 3 inches from being a hero on more than one occasion.... Thats where the offset occurs... you take penalties but gain shots

The 22 year-old left winger joins the Cyclones after playing with the University of British Columbia in CIS earlier this year. While at UBC, the Woodbridge, Ontario native collected nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) and 65 penalty minutes in 24 games. A year ago, he played under Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde in Bloomington and logged 115 minutes in the "sin-bin" with three assists in 17 games.

Liambis spent his junior career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters, earning 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) and 357 penalty minutes in 124 games. The physical forward ranked in the top five in team penalty minutes in both of his full seasons with the Otters.

Yup your right Slapshot. With numbers like this, I can see why they signed him for his "shots" Eight goals in 165 games of junior, CHL, and college hockey. Sure makes up for those 537 penalty minutes. Thats one goal for every every 67 minutes of penalty time. Just what a team that can't score and has the leagues worst PK needs to add when fighting for a playoff spot

Not saying its a good trade off but at least its there... He's an enforcer, something every hockey team in the league has and needs. He knows his role and is good at it. And hey, if you cant beat the team you're playing on the score board... beat em lol
