quote: CINCINNATI, Ohio – Seven different players scored for the Toledo Walleye (32-30-4-2) and Thomas McCollum earned an 18-save shutout as they defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones (31-28-6-4) by a 7-0 final score in front of 5,428 at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night. It was just the third time this season that Cincinnati had been shutout.
Just like last night, Toledo raced out to a 2-0 cushion as Evan Rankin and Simon Danis-Pepin each scored less than four minutes apart. The first tally came at the 8:20 mark when Rankin wristed a shot past Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (L, 8 saves, 9-6-0-1) right off a face-off. Then, at 12:17, Danis-Pepin registered a power play goal from just outside the right circle with a slap shot through a screen. Despite three power play chances for Cincinnati in the opening frame, the Walleye took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Toledo exploded for four unanswered goals; Scooter Smith, Willie Coetzee, Andy Bombach, and Bryan Rufenach all lit the lamp for the Walleye in the span of about eight minutes as they led 6-0 through 40 minutes of play.
Cincinnati’s offensive struggles continued in the third period as they were only able to muster four shots in the final frame. Toledo then capped off the scoring at 10:08 when Jason Lepine sent a shot over Chet Pickard’s (ND, 13 saves, 9-13-2-1) left shoulder for a 7-0 lead. They would hold to win by the same score as Thomas McCollum (W, 18 saves, 11-8-1-1) earned his third shutout of the season.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows: 1. Thomas McCollum (Winning goaltender, 18 saves, shutout) 2. Andy Bombach (1 goal, 2 assists for Toledo) 3. Jason Lepine (1 goal, 1 assist for Toledo)
The same two teams will close out their 2010-11 season series with a Sunday matinee at the Huntington Center. The puck drops in Toledo at 4:00pm with pregame coverage on the Cyclones Radio Network starting at 3:45pm.
The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena next Friday, April 1 for City Barbeque Fan Appreciation Night. The final game of the regular season will feature $1 John Morrell Hotdogs, $1 Donatos Pizza, $1 Soda, and $.50 Popcorn. 2011-12 season tickets are on sale NOW! For more information, call 513.421.PUCK (7825) or visit CyclonesHockey.com.
Don't know what to say. I liked the jerseys. |

What has happened to our Cyclones. Falling down center ice with no one even bumping into you , leading to a goal for them. The passing is so lifeless , often times to zones with no on near except the other team. Worse of all when questionable calls are made where is the Coach , at least showing displeasure with what he is seeing. While not all calls are questionable even one should bring some heat from the staff. Unfortunately I am afraid that with the way the boys are playing I don't think thier hearts are in it. I think they have given up on the season. I know we can not win the Cup every year but would love to see more effort. |

| The team I saw tonight won't beat Toledo and definitely won't beat kzoo. Tonight was just a complete lack of effort on behalf of the Cyclones. There is zero excuse for not trying, particularly when you fighting for a playoff spot and playing the team that has the opportunity to send you golfing. Pitiful! |

"Pain or damage don't end the world, or despair, or f*** beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you've got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back." Deadwood's Al Swearengen, philosopher king of cutthroat outlaws.
Come to think of it, Al has all of the qualities in a hockey coach that Skalde lacks. Can we get Ian McShane to coach the Cyclones in character?

| I left at the 2nd intermission, which is something I've never done before. That game was just painful to watch. I've never seen the Cyclones play so badly, so slowly, so listlessly and be so thoroughly dominated like they were last night. There were no bright spots and nothing to hold my head up about. Toledo looks like a team on a mission, and Cincinnati looks like a team that turned in their equipment in mid January. If, by chance, the Cyclones make the playoffs, it will almost be a miracle based on last night's "performance." |

Friday night my wife said "They look like they actually don't want to make the playoffs."
I guess maybe she was right. If they had come out of these two games, at home, against the #9 team, with just two points they'd likely have punched their ticket into the playoffs. Instead they turned in a couple of stinkfests and got abused in their own building. And watching Skalde stand behind the bench with his hands in his pockets when we get questionable calls or one of his guys gets a stick in the face makes me want to gag a little.
And yes, Skalde is still basically a career .500 coach. Taking over arguably the best franchise in the league didn't help that out much.

| Perhaps they don't want to play for Skalde. It's just a thought. I would think professionals wouldn't do that, but they are human too and look at the New Jersey Devils this year. I could write for awhile of other professional teams of different sports, that really stunk and a coaching change was made and they turned it around. |

| My wife and I left at the second intermission as well, something I've also never done. There was nothing worth watching last night unless you made the drive down from Toledo. We weren't skating, not passing well, not trying in any measure of the game. I don't even recall seeing one legitimate scoring chance during the first two periods. The guy asked at one point how many new people were at the game last night, the Cyclones sure didn't do anything to make them come back. |

Well, I would say that this performance, combined with others this season, kinda spits in the face of Cyclones fans and more importantly spits in the face of our legacy as a team. Jarrod Skalde came in in August like a politician straight off the campaign trail, and I really tried to like the guy... but elephants dont change stripes... I have seen games this year that really make me embarrassed to be a fan, and I kept my mouth shut about my feelings... last night I watched a poor camel have its back broken!
Ill start off by grading last night... skating: horrible... passing: depressing, checking: lackluster, and thats being nice... and then ill get to my overall opinion of this team... I mean this team can be better and this team has been so awesome when they have done it right.... right though has come so rarely this year. Chuck would have had peoples heads for this, and Ron Smith would have had players sent home on Greyhounds!
I understand that the ECHL is a developmental league and these players are rookies (most of them anyway) trying to win places in the AHL and NHL. I am reminded of what one of our guys asked me after the Toledo exhibition game in 2009 asked me... "All that talent leaving... was the Kelly Cup worth it?"... my answer was hell yeah... and the 2010 cup was well worth it too because we came out of nowhere to win it... But while our current players are here they can learn from greats and learn from our legacy and history and play like they want to represent Cincinnati and that legacy well... when you don a red and black shirt with a tornado in the middle, you represent Cincinnati! And while we didnt win championships until recently, we were still a very feared hockey franchise that every year came in and busted skulls... and because of that we have a rich heritage, and whoever plays in Cincinnati MUST respect what Dionne, Biggs, Lawless, Ced, Barrett, Mayer, Smith, Sarjeant, and others brought to the ice before them!
I am shocked at what our franchise has become, and I hope the organization can fix it and fast... and I just dont think Jarrod is the right fit for this team anymore... I hope in the future he can prove me wrong, or he can ship himself right back to Bloomington. |

Donnie, do you seriously wonder why a lot of people don't like you? If you weren't trying to be funny, then you were just being an a$$. |

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
