CINCINNATI, Ohio - Seven different players scored for the Toledo Walleye (32-30-4-2) and Thomas McCollum earned an 18-save shutout as they defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones (31-28-6-4) by a 7-0 final score in front of 5,428 at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday night. It was just the third time this season that Cincinnati had been shutout.
Just like last night, Toledo raced out to a 2-0 cushion as Evan Rankin and Simon Danis-Pepin each scored less than four minutes apart. The first tally came at the 8:20 mark when Rankin wristed a shot past Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (L, 8 saves, 9-6-0-1) right off a face-off. Then, at 12:17, Danis-Pepin registered a power play goal from just outside the right circle with a slap shot through a screen. Despite three power play chances for Cincinnati in the opening frame, the Walleye took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Toledo exploded for four unanswered goals; Scooter Smith, Willie Coetzee, Andy Bombach, and Bryan Rufenach all lit the lamp for the Walleye in the span of about eight minutes as they led 6-0 through 40 minutes of play.
Cincinnati's offensive struggles continued in the third period as they were only able to muster four shots in the final frame. Toledo then capped off the scoring at 10:08 when Jason Lepine sent a shot over Chet Pickard's (ND, 13 saves, 9-13-2-1) left shoulder for a 7-0 lead. They would hold to win by the same score as Thomas McCollum (W, 18 saves, 11-8-1-1) earned his third shutout of the season.

The same two teams will close out their 2010-11 season series with a Sunday matinee at the Huntington Center. The puck drops in Toledo at 4:00pm with pregame coverage on the Cyclones Radio Network starting at 3:45pm.
The defending Kelly Cup Champions will return to U.S. Bank Arena next Friday, April 1 for City Barbeque Fan Appreciation Night.
