| I haven't seen any threads about this, but wanted to make sure everyone knew that former Cyclone captain Don Biggs son is projected to go in the first round of tonight's NHL draft in St. Paul |

| Tyler was selected by Toronto in the first round, 22nd overall. The Leafs made a trade up to get him. |

| Toronto just traded up to Anaheim's 22nd overall pick and selected Tyler Biggs. Tyler's favorite team is the Leafs so this should be a dream come true for him! |

Btw, Don I respectfully disagree with your first comment. I believe the team as a whole are the Cyclones, but an individual member of the team would be a Cyclone, singular.
The Enquirer refers to former "Red" (singular) Lenny Harris in this story about Barry Larkin:

You're welcome to disagree. Wouldn't be the first time you were wrong about something. |

| Would seem the local newspaper would agree with me though, and fortunately for me, I'm correct a whole lot more than I'm wrong. |

I was kinda hoping one of our affiliates could have got him. Anyhow if he starts out in the ECHL he will be with Reading. |

He won't begin his pro career in the ECHL. When he's done playing in the CCHA at Miami, he'll be in the AHL if he's not ready for the NHL. |

Yawn!! Is that really the ancient, tired, worn-out phrase well you're going to drop a bucket in? |

| Bags, don't expect to see many first round draft picks playing in the ECHL. They'll usually play Division 1, Junior A, or in the AHL. The E will generally only see projects or sometimes a goalie prospect, but rarely anyone from the first two rounds. |

Did someone leave a window open, you want to talk hockey and I keep hearing a draft (or is it hot air) in the background ! The point you bring up on 1st round picks could possibly be the main problem to so many failures. If the ECHL level was to concentrate on playing the game correctly, maybe some of these 1st rounders would benefit from a couple of learning rounds in the "E" and then could use the "A" to be ready for the NHL level. If Tyler is ready for the AHL then that's great. But maybe a year of solid play at the ECHL level would skip a year of struggling at the AHL level and over trying. |

Oh, did you notice those hot air gusts too??? ;)
I think you have a point, but I also think the NHL brass doesn't see the competition in the E as legitimate enough for top prospects, and they see the AHL as the learning ground for the players. The expectation is that if the player is good enough to get first round money, they should be polished enough to figure the AHL pretty quickly, and be more challenged by the higher level of competition.
Can you imagine someone like Sydney Crosby spending a year in the AHL, much less the ECHL? |
