Lightning recall Desjardins
March 5, 2013

The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Cedrick Desjardins from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced today.

Because of injury, which is as I stated in this thread the only way he gets another NHL opportunity.

What percentage of during season call-ups are for injuries ? Funny how they
just made a trade for him during the season so they must have felt he would
be a quality call-up if needed. If not they would have traded for someone else.

Tampa Bay's trade with Montreal for Desjardins was a minor transaction, one minor league goaltender in exchange for another. Neither goalie fits into their new team's future plans.

However, Ceddy has proven himself at the AHL level to at least get a shot somewhere, and when people produce when someone is injured, that is the time for the opportunity

If they have to play him, here's betting this time around he gets lit up like a Christmas tree. He was more lucky than good in the two NHL games he played. And Tampa Bay knows it.

All I can say is too bad Cedrick didn't play for the Ducks because
to you he would be a sure fire NHL prospect with only the injuries
holding him back. I remember a certain IHL goalie for Cleveland we
used to light up like a Christmas tree every time we played them. But
send Patrick Lalime to the NHL and he was a solid goalie for years.
Why can't you just give him a chance to prove if he can play or not.

If Desjardins had played for the Ducks, I would have said the same thing.

The Ducks only had two goalies I thought for sure would go on to play in the NHL (and by play in the NHL, for more than a cup of coffee or because of injuries): Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Ilya Bryzgalov.

Even though he struggled with inconsistency as a first-year pro, I thought Chris Mason had the upside to be a competent backup in the NHL. He's been that and more while carving out a nice career in the NHL.

Blaine Russell, Aren Miller, Jason Elliott, Gregg Naumenko, Jamie Ram, Frederic Cassivi and Tom Askey were all what Desjardins is: career minor leaguers.

Naumenko had the talent to play in the NHL. Perhaps if he had Desjardins' work ethic he would have at least been a backup in the NHL for a few years.

I would not be surprised to see Jeremy Smith play a few years in the NHL as a backup. You could see he had the upside to perhaps play in the NHL when he was with the Cyclones.

I will be attending Lightning games March 29 and April 2. I will ask Lightning GM Steve Yzerman why won't he just give Desjardins a chance, because a Cincinnati Cyclones fan thinks he deserves it.

Sarcasm suits you well DH. I'm just a lowlife minor league hockey
fan who wants to see the players get a chance at the next level.
I'd apreciate you passing that word on to Mr. Yzerman because your
words are as good as gold !

If Steve Yzerman respects you about as much as the local media does, good luck with that conversation!

No need to. I'm in one of the suites at the St. Pete Times Forum.
