I thought this was a good move. With Jared Boll stepping up and becoming the new Jody Shelley there's really no need for Shelley anymore. Boll brings energy every game by fighting, hitting everything in sight, and even scoring a couple goals here and there. Both teams got what they need. SJ gets toughness that they need and CBJ gets a draft pick to add to the system and grow players. |

I think there was simply no room for Shelley on this roster anymore. He has been a healthy scratch since what seems like December. It is sad to see him go as a longtime fan but Ryderfan73 is right - Boll is becoming our new enforcer, as well as a decent player which I'll take any day over Shelley. |

since trading shelley teams have been physically beating on the jackets and boll has not been stepping up. don't get me wrong i like boll's energy and presence on the ice, but jody shelley he is not. before the trade, even though shelley wasn't playing he was still an intimadating factor; teams knew that if they got chippy, they'd have to face shelley down the line at some point.
i personally think the jackets got the short end of the stick with this deal. they lost one of the few heavy weights in the NHL can actually play for a 6th round pick. how many 6th round picks actually pan out? also, the trade leaves the jackets with out a true fighter, other than boll. if something happens to boll the jackets will be left without a true fighter.
i'm sad to see shelley go, but the move is good for him. he'll get playing time on a playoff contending team; and from recent reports has actually been getting shifts on the first line with joe thorton.
as a side note....tonite (2/8/08) the jackets head to san jose. perhaps we'll get to see shelley v boll round 1. |

No fight but he registered an assist - his first point with the Sharks, and well ... first point in quite a while. |
