JTest: Back when the Cyclones were in the Gardens they lead the league in attendence I believe the average attendence was 9600 and change for a building that I believe holds 10. Cincinnati very much used to be a hockey town, not so much anymore but there are still the die hard faithful there night in and night out.

We traveled to Ft Wayne, Kalamazoo, Indianapolis, and Johnstown back in the day and honestly don't remember anything spectacular as far as crowd size or enthusiasm from Ft Wayne, that not to say things haven't changed in the last 10-12 years but thats just my honest opinion.

I really wish the Cyclones were back at the Gardens, for as crappy as a building as it is, it was a GREAT place to catch a minor league hockey game, you felt close to the game and the building was loud and you could hear ever hard hit.

i too wish the clones would go back to the garden, but i already swore i would never step foot in that arena ever again...(after the railraiders called it quits, i felt that the robinsons owe me...cause me along with alot of other fans were doing all the freakin work)...but i never got to see the clones at the garden (or i was really young and dont remember seeing them) but yea, i wouldnt mind going to ft. wayne for a game once (anyone got an extra ticket?...)

so if the only sport in Ft Wayne is hockey.. then the attendance should be high right?? I know Cincinnati has two other sports (baseball, football, college sports) that other people can enjoy instead of just one team.. right? wrong? So my thoughts are if Ft Wayne Komets are the only "Big" sport in Ft Wayne then I hope that their attendance should be high unlike Cincinnati attendance.

I've been trying to find team attendance averages online but can not find any IHL individual team averages. What I do remember is that more often than not when I went to a game back home when I was a kid there were signs on the parking stands stating "Tonight's Game is Sold Out, If You do not Have Tickets Please Turn Around" (This is back pre-renovations when the arena only held 8,013)

In the late 80's the attendance sucked in the arena. In the early 90's continuing to present day they have always drawn a very respectable number. (Between 6-8 thousand a game)

To keep a team for 57 years with the same name and only a handful of ownership changes lets you know something is going right in the town. As far as "other games in town" the real litmus test will be this spring. The "Tin Caps" (A NAME I HATE) the successors to the Fort Wayne Wizards (class A ball) will be getting a brand new downtown stadium. Will they do to the Komets what the Dragons did to the Bummers? Only time will tell.

Fort Wayne is truly an outstanding hockey town. I've been to numerous games there including last year's game 7 of the Turner Cup finals. The fans pay top dollar for an ok product.

When the Komets played in the AAA IHL, they had some outstanding teams and players. They also had an outstanding owner in David Dan Welker who had forgotten more about hockey than the Franke Brothers will ever know. A man like Welker would never foist the current IHL on the great fans of FTW. He would have sought and received AHL membership.

I certainly remember the Cincinnati Garden days with the Cyclones....it's where I saw my first hockey game and got hooked (a 5-4 shootout win over Kalamazoo). I agree it was an outstanding hockey barn, as run down as it was. Unfortunately I am not qualified to comment on other venues since I never made it to any away games but I do remember the rivalries. I do miss those IHL days, but am just glad to have our Cyclones back! Once they folded, I never thought I would see them again but kept all my paraphernailia just in case. I'm glad I did now.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

Say that name in Fort Wayne only with protective headgear on.

No doubt Ft. Wayne is one of the top minor league hockey towns in all of hockey. A lot of us older fans took plenty of trips there back when the Cyclones and Komets were both playing in the original IHL. But this Ft. Wayne fan coming on here attacking Clones fans and blaming him for a former player's decision to quit and go after "personal goals" and calling out Cincinnati for not being a hockey team is unnecessary. I don't recall us having anything to do with it nor doing anything but supporting him when he played here.

I grew up in Ft. Wayne as spent 21 years going to Komets games. Though I consider myself a Cyclones fan now, you CAN NOT compare Cincinnati hockey and Ft. Wayne Hockey. This town is not even close to the same level as Ft. Wayne. Their fans are far more knowledgeable about the game. I dare you to go there are get up out of your seat while the puck is in play. You would be the only one as they appreciate the sport and are incredible HOCKEY fans. I remember the days of watching Ft. Wayne wipe their asses with the Clones.

Those of you opening your mouths without ever going there have no idea what you are talking about. For those that say they have been there(ClonesfanNKY)and they were not impressed - I call you a liar. You would have to be.

I agree that in Ft. Wayne there are no other sporting events for the Komets to compete against. SO WHAT....that does change the fact that it is an incredible hockey town.

I also agree that the talent in the NewIHL is dreadful as I witnessed a game on Thanksgiving night. I believe that speaks even more to the dedication that the town has for the sport. If you were the Franke Bothers (Owners) and are averaging over 8,000 - what would your motivation to pursue joining another league with higherranchise fees????

If you want to see what it looks like when an entire town rallys behind a team (WIN OR LOOSE) go to Ft. Wayne.

Yea I'm a liar. I went back when Cincy lost
both teams. I went B/C I heard all this hype about
"oh it a great place to watch hockey the crowds are rowdy
and BLAH BLAH BLAH. The Hockey was ok being the UHL the crowed wasn't
into it unless there was a fight or a goal. So call me what you want. I know where I have been for hockey believe me not I could care less. And for me not being a hockey fan and not knowing the game Just B/C I say FT Wayne sucked for me that's a laugh in itself. I for one never leave my seat during the game answer my cell phone or even let my kids get up during play. I love the game of hockey and I have traveled far and wide to watch it. If Cincinnati didn't have the Bengals and UC,XU basketball and about 5 of the top high school football teams in the state and in the top corner of Indiana we would be a great hockey town too. Oh and I forgot we have the State of KY to compete with too UK Basketball. So call me a Liar I will bring in the things that we bought in FT Wayne the buttons of the players and the T-shirts and the traded cards. And before you say "ebay" I have pictures of the arena, and my ticket stubs. I will get of the soap box now but before you call someone a liar make sure it's not a die hard hockey fan like myself.. J-Test...................end of rant
