A few years ago, I took my son up to the Nutt House to see the Clones play the Bummers. We took our seats and my son ( 7 at the time) took his coat off revealing his Cyclones jersey. Well, I guess the kids behind us didn't dig this too much and when we started to leave at the end of the game, we saw Noah's coat was on the floor. As he picked it up, it was soaked with two different flavoured icees and had nacho cheese thrown on it. They had left well before the game was over I guess so they didn't face me and my high blood pressure rage. The real bad thing was that it was in the teens outside. Ushers helped clean the coat as much as could but it still couldn't be worn. I gave Noah my coat and froze all the way to the car and then till it warmed up. We haven't been up since.

I have no problem with a good rivalry, and I do love to hate me some Bummers, and I really do hate Elmira...however I do not dislike the fans of either team it is only a game after all. Also, if you want to say Cyclone fans are "low" for cheering against you in the playoffs two years ago, what about the Dayton fan I spoke to when we played Johnstown....in his Johnstown jersey ( If he is a Bummers fan, why does he own one of those). I don't know, I've never had any problems at any arena except for maybe a little trash talking but that is normaly in good nature.

Smack talk and rivalry is to be expected when one travels to opposing arenas to watch your own team play. Wether you go in a group or as an individual, you become a target. Those that use vulger/verbal assaults or are 'destructive' are not true sports fans to begin with! They do more harm and put a bad light on the team/fans/city.

I have traveled to many arenas over the years, and have seen all levels of rivalry and smack talk, both good and bad. There is no one arena where it is worse than an other. But the one thing I have found........if fans of that city confront the ones that are making trouble, they are a lot quicker to back off and 'behave', more so than telling an usher or security about the 'problem'.

So to all true hockey fans..........if you see someone that is 'going over the top' towards a visiting fan, take the initiative and see if you can get them to back off or a least tone it down. And to those that are the 'visiting fan', remember that you not only there to support your team, but you also represent your team and city and other fans as well!

I remember last year when we played in Dayton and Chris Ferazzoli got leveled on the ice there were Dayton fans that would have been perfectly content in him never moving again. Completely "low." And there is a guy that sits up above where the Cyclones fans normally sit in Dayton that I would love to box with. I would probably get killed because of the looks of this guy, but I would get some agression taken out. He is always yelling **** at the team and fans that doesn't need to be coming out of anyones mouth.

Elmira is a whole different story though. We drove up there on our way to Ontario (miiiinor pit stop hahaha) a few weeks ago and their fans were obnoxious. Of course there weren't many Cinci fans up there, so we were sandwiched between a bunch of ELM fans. Everytime we scored, they would scream in our faces and say "WHO CARES!!!" while we cheered our team on. The one guy was screaming at us telling us we should shut the hell up and stop cheering. Uhm wait a second... we drove how far? To sit on our hands? Yeah. I don't think so. He told us that sitting on our hands would be our best option though!
