Sorry to hear about all of the "pleasantries". I was in the middle of several "spirited" exchanges between one of our fans and about 20 of theirs. Our guy was escorted to the door as was one of theirs. I didn't know about the fan club being doused with beer. That's garbage that you guys shouldn't have to put up with. I've never seen anyone in the group that was sitting behind the bench ever do anything that would warrant that. Now my buddy who got tossed out........LOL.
Great game. Adios scoring slump.
Sproat's goal with 19 seconds left in the first was huge. We had outplayed the Nailers by a wide margin. Wheeling's goal in the first was fluke city. It was deflected high into the air by one of our defensemen and just fluttered over Lacasse. Had we gone into the locker room down 0-1 after outplaying them and getting some bad breaks (crossbar, etc.), the guys may have had some serious head games going on about being snake bitten.
Syro's goal 30 secs into the 2nd was huge as well. As was the penalty kill of the 5 on 3 to start period three. Many claps of the hands for Eghoetz and Van Guilder. They were on for the entire kill and were outstanding.
The Cyclones are playing a very gritty style of hockey now. Van Guilder has really picked up his physical play as well as Syro. A Nailer fan called Sproat a "thug" during one of the intermissions. That brought a smile to my face. Sproat a thug. Lord have Mercy!
We have a huge physical-play advantage over Wheeling. I hope that we continue to exploit it.
In the closing moments of the game-long after the outcome had been settled-we were initiating physical play. Woll roughed up Clark. Miller fought Clark. Someone got Goebels so hacked off that he got a 10 minute misconduct. Salekin was his devious self. How he didn't get sent to the sin bin is beyond me.LOL
Santorelli is actually much better than I thought he was. He isn't the most gifted player, but his AHL experience comes through in a few key ways. He makes quick passes and takes quick shots. He also is a pretty good forechecker as well.
Hopefully Rank, MacKenzie and MacDonald will be availible come Wednesday. MacDonald is particular. With TJ and Coughlin out (for how long who knows?)and Miller and Quesnelle playing so-so at best, Macker's presence would be a huge bonus on the blueline.
We've back in this series now. The confidence has returned and we're playing a style of hockey which can win this series. We can score as well as Wheeling can. We have grittier and tougher players than they have. I'm confident that Wednesday will end with the series tied at 2 apiece.
Happy Easter to All. |

That goal late in the first killed Wheeling dead. Krantz with stupid turnover #924 in a situation where an icing would have sufficed, as they'd already almost turned it over only seconds earlier. Usually Cashman and Sheahan are on the ice at the ends of periods, as they're far less likely to do something dumb. A 1-0 lead compared to a 1-1 tie at intermission is night and day.
Then Kelly Miller takes a roughing penalty on the first shift of the second. Why Kelly? And of course the Cyclones scores immediately and it was "game over" for sure in my mind, and it played out to be just that.
Things were getting ugly at the end, and of course Patafie let it get that way. The no-call on the high stick to Goebel was atrocious, but in the end it meant very little. Nice to see Lord take one for the team, as no one wants to fight Johnson. I just hope they don't waste a forward spot by putting Payne in the lineup Wednesday. Wheeling just needs to play their game. Any good referee would have seized control of the rough play early, and the game wouldn't have been out of hand.
Wheeling's offense needs some help from people other than the usual suspects that scored last night. Lord's been AWOL the whole series, Goebel can't do anything except from behind the net, and our guys can't get to rebounds when the goalie leaves the net wide open.
The winner of game 4 will win this series.
As for all the garbage that went on in the stands, the best way to deal with it is to ignore ignorance. Anyone who qualifies as a real fan wouldn't instigate any of the stuff that went on. Both sides seemed willing to keep stoking the fire, and then you get women invloved and the head bobbing and rapid arm movements are in full effect.
The good thing about a Wednesday night game is that a good portion of the 'Tard Farm will stay at home. I hope some Cyclones fans are still willing to make the trip, and make all the damn noise you want. |

We just got home from Wheeling and yes, there were some incidents involving their "fans" and ours. The first incident was in the 1st period. I don't know all the info but it involved some drunk ass-hole who thought it would be great to jump up behind the Cyclones bench and yell at Johnson. Just to say, the "N" word was used repeatedly. Since we were sitting at center ice, I didn't see what happened so maybe someone who sat down the other end of the section can elaborate. The other big incident occurred just as the 2nd period was ending. We were sitting behind the Cyclones bench with a few Wheeling "fans" scattered throughout. As one of our fans (I don't recall her name) was getting up to go out (to the bathroom or concession stand, I don't know), she had to pass by this family of 3, she tried to get through, but the "son" just turned his head as to not let her through. She tried to go past him and when she did , she bumped into him. He then pushed her and her first impulse was to throw her beer into his face. thats when the "father" jumped up and threatened to "kick her ass". The funny thing to me was his "wife" was holding him back. Anyway, to make a long story short, we had to be escorted out after the game by security to the rear where the team bus was. But enough about that for now. It is now almost 4:00 in the morning. More info will follow.
Wes-I was down on that end---I did not hear the "N" word; if I had, and especially if my son heard that, there would have been a lot more trouble. He's got enough going on in his life without having to be exposed to that crap! Was that the same guy who was banging on the Cyclones glass and yelling at Johnson? The guy was truly obnoxious, but most of it no more than some of our "fans." The line was drawn when he repeatedly banged on the glass, yelling over the top of it, trying to knock the sticks over, etc. Our trainer tried to whack him with a stick, and came awfully close. He got into a shouting match with some of us, threatening to fight us, etc., etc. He even threatened to fight JJ-hah-that would have been funny. After the period his pregnant wife (?) lit into him, repeatedly. He basically melted into a little ball, and slunk off to the bar. I did not know people got beer thrown on them. That sucks. I know most Wheeling fans were very upset by the actions of a few of their fans. It was good to meet Woodrow and Nailer Fan. Looking forward to seeing you in Cincinnati next weekend. There WILL be a game six. All in all, a great game and a great road trip!

Mike, thats the word I got from other people. Now it may have been blown out of proportion as it gets told over and over by different people. But thats just what I was told. As for the other incident down on our end, those 3 people started as soon as they got there. My son was in the row where their seats are during warm-ups taking pictures as he always does at Cyclone games. They came in and said "these are our seats" not excuse me or pardon me but real mean like almost to the point of yelling. As soon as they sat down the father started with the insults because he had to get up periodically to let some of our fans get to their seats. I also failed to mention how bad some of their fans aim is also. During chuck-a-puck my son and I were standing and had several go right by us. You know my son and I, pretty big targets and not hit once, ha-ha. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Gotta say that I don't agree with that statement at all. After Games 1 & 2 and the score last night, the only surprise was that it took so long for the ugliness to start (on the ice that is). It wouldn't have mattered if Patafie had called every ticky tack penalty in the book. Short of handing out misconducts preemptively, it was gonna happen. As a matter of fact, it will probably happen again in this series |

What a good use of money in this sorry economy in an area with a lot of poverty----$1 per shot to try to hit someone with a rubber puck. Now that shows some real intelligence (not). I have never understood why one would be rude to people who come to your city, spends their money, and are basically fans like you but rooting for the other team. Especially when this league needs as many fans as it can get!
Some people just have no life. Like someone else said, they should be grateful to us for allowing them to back into the playoffs. Hah-they should throw us a party!

I also failed to mention the fat couple who tried to pick a fight with my wife and I after the game, telling us to go back to f-n' Cincinnati. My wife, being the smart ass she is, said gladly-sure beats this stinky town. |

unless there has been a rule change it is my understanding that only ahl players that have been assigned to us by the start of the series are eligible to play this round....
i'm going to look into a bit more to see what i can find..... |

| My question is, since Hamilton, Milwaukee, and Portland are all in the AHL Playoffs, should we count on any help at all? I would think we are pretty much on our own from here on. |

| Now that I got some sleep, and calmed down abit, I can elaborate on said incident. The three ( Wheeling fans ) in question started ranting the minute they took their seats, and right behind my head needless to say, I ignored them.I know our coaching staff, never give up and win the game! Those Wheeling fans were giving Kelly some very colorful remarks through the game, all for just cheering on our team ( as any fan would for their team ). At some point Kelly had to go to the restroom, and asked to be let out, and as she was passing the three, the guy made some comments to her and pushed her. Thats when I got doused with his beer. Now anyone who knows me, I have some not so cheep jersey's. this not bragging, I do it to support our teams finacial well being, and charity reason, as a great many of you do as well. I have the upmost respect to anyone wearing a jersey beit our fans or theirs. So, I will not hold all of Wheeling fans responsible for one jerk and his beer. I will learn from this experience, and suggest to Sherri that next time security should be notified at the start of the game. Calmer heads should prevail. Kelly's mistake was she was responding to this guys remarks, next time ignore them and smile! One more point, their mascot tried to hit us with water from our bench. I do not know if any actions can be taken against the team, but it sure a hell against WesBanco arena. All in all I still had fun. |

no help form hamilton for 2 reasons: 1) we didn't put any bulldogs(with the exception od st. denis) on the roster and 2) both hamilton and mtl made the playoffs.
up in milwaulkee things are a bit different. sure they made the playoffs but nashville didn't and has sent some players their way recently. logic would hold that ian mckenzie would be headed our way soon.
portland is in the same situation as milwaukee; they made the playoffs but their nhl affiliate did not. i have not seen any recent transactions involving the 2 teams. but if/when buffalo send players down rank and macdonald will become ineligible to play because they are not on the clear day list. one would think that we would see them at that point.
keep in mind, the eligibility of these guys is up for debate. i'm still looking for clarification on the rules about players joining mid series.
this did just come to mind. we have 21 players on our playoff roster. of which only 18 are here. if coghlan and mcelroy get put on IR that drops us to 16 skater and we would be allowed to add people. i think that would be the only way rank, macdonald, or mckenzie would get to play this round. ... |
