I was pretty much in the middle of the group so I couldn't see or hear the various fights as well as some other fans did. My understanding is that the arena had not had any problems in previous trips and this situation caught everyone off guard. Security was too slow to respond but when they did respond I thought they did a good job.

The jerk taunting JJ was pretty obnoxious and while I didn't hear the "N" word I felt from the hatred spewed that it was that type of situation. My friend who was several seats closer said he did hear the "N" word. In any case I was getting concerned about this jerk's actions and his going over the glass and I was beginning to wonder if the Cyclones fans themselves were going to need to step in. We don't want people from the team to feel the need to defend themselves and them then get in trouble for fighting with opposing team fans. That said, I thought JJ was more then justified in any response he gave. The Jerk's wife may have read him the riot act but I know that security also gave him a major lecture. He somewhat backed off after that but not 100%.

I totally missed the exchange at the other end until I suddenly realized that people were arguing and then I noticed the ground was wet. Assuming the situation happened as described I think it was totally unreasonable for their fans to refuse to let our fans pass. They planted a security person in that area for the rest of the game.

The mascot throwing water is something I personally chalked up to good natured ribbing of the opposing team fans. It is possible a few drops went over the top of the glass but the vast majority hit the glass and I really don't believe there was any real intent to hit the fans with water. I seem to remember them doing the same thing the last time i was in that arena so it may be a standing gag.

My overall opinion is yes we had some Wheeling fans who were jerks but while the majority of the problems were unprovoked I can't honestly say that the Cincinnati people were 100% innocent in every case. I also must say I think it was a very small minority of Wheeling people causing problems and the silent majority were as bothered by what happened as we were.

Everybody on both sides needs to take a deep breath and realize that it is OK for each side to cheer for their own team. There should not be a problem with "friendly" trash talk but there is never a reason to take it to the point of hate speech, threats or violence.

Ending on a somewhat funny note - At the end of the night I had my jacket on and buttoned figuring the less I looked like a Cincinnati fan the better. It somewhat backfired on me because I kept having to assure security that I was part of the group and should be allowed to follow the rest of the group including my wife to the car.

Get Clones instead of Clunkers.

Spike squirts water towards the opponent's fans all the time. I'm sure any that cleared the glass was incidental and nothing to get worked up about.

I was on the end of the section/row where the person was taunting Justin. I don't believe that I heard the 'n' word but it's a good thing I didn't. After we had a good & solid lead I don't believe that he was out of his seat the rest of the team.

I also appreciated the ticket rep escorting us to the car. It's sad when it comes down to that for the visiting team's fans. I would hope that NEVER EVER happens at USBA. Let's just be respectful toward others around us when they come to our arena.

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

Glad everyone had a nice, safe trip who went up to WHL. I'm sure they appreciated having the usual fan support even being in the hole 0-2. We watched the game at Slugger's and had a good time hearing Hammer's "scoooooooooore" from jevers' cell phone as we watched all 7 of them. It was nice to finally pepper Darling with shots and get through to him in major fashion like we were able to do multiple times in the regular season.

Regarding the fan situation, I wasn't there but my $0.2 is ... there are idiots and great fans in every hockey barn. I know exactly who the couple is that somebeach described because since I've sat behind our bench every team I've been to Wheeling, they are always right in the mix. The last time, my buddy and I literally sat right text to them at the end of the row. They never exactly looked happy to be sitting amidst all of the Cyclones fans but that is where their season tickets are. It's unfortunate it had to happen, but as I said, idiots and great fans in all buildings. Not that I'm saying anyone has said all Wheeling fans are bad, but I would hate for any outsiders to stereotype all Cincinnati fans for the actions in last year's playoffs with the ice getting littered with bottles and what have you ... obviously all of us true fans despised it.

I agree with you 100%; and I certainly don't mind fans verbally taunting the opposing players. It's when they cross the line and repeatedly bang on the bench glass or threaten violence. I've had great experiences in Wheeling previously as well as Dayton, Mississippi, and even Johnstown. Certainly the decent people last night far outnumbered the few a-holes.

Who all is going to be there Wednesday night?

Although we had a lot of abuse from some of the fans, a number of true fans came up to us at the end of the game and said thanks for coming and apologizing for the treatment from the fans. We also found some nice fans in the concourse during the intermissions who also apologized.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ZINGER!!!!!

As all that was going on in front of me (I was in 207), I was wondering why, if they can't tolerate opposing fans, anyone would get season tickets in the area of the visiting team's bench. That's really the prime spot for visiting groups. But, considering how smart it is to pick fights over a freakin' hockey game, these people aren't solid mentally anyway.

Again, sorry for those who had a bad time. I'll be in a blue #11 Rob Sirianni jersey on Wednesday, and if there's empty seats around me, have at 'em. You have every right to cheer your team on. Don't let a few drunken idiots deter you from supporting your boys.

Mom's family is thinking of going on Wednesday. The boys are on spring break and we had nothing else planned. Should I be worried if we plan on sitting in our usual hockey location? We like to sit behind the goal. My boys are only 6 and 10. Any thoughts?

You should be fine behind the goal. Actually on Wed. you should be pretty much fine anywhere there. There prob won't be too many people behind the goal, and for the most part, Wheeling fans are very well behaved. Easy to talk to, and mostly well groomed .

Have a great time! I have to be in Wheeling on Thurs., but can't be there for Wed night or Friday .

Behind the goal's always a good place. You'll hear some good-natured heckling towards the players if you sit behind the visitor's entrance, but that's all it is. Pretty good bunch of people from what I've seen.

Nothing to worry about there. That's a much less crowded section, even on weekends and the people that sit there are very respectful.
