Thats sooooo True Elvis, Over on my end the ppl in Section 121 always yell "Shooooooooot" Even when they player with the puck don't have a shot. Thats why when they yell "shoot" we yell "set it up" Make no sense to take a bad shot. Yea I know if you shoot the puck towards the net good things happend, But If you don't have a shot you can't shoot. |

| Guilty as charged. I yell shoooooot a lot when we are down and need things to happen. There are times when they shouldn't tho. Sometimes, like Elvis said, it hits the opposing player. But what frustrates me is when it seems they wait too long to shoot and the opponent gets right in front of them. In that case I'll say something like...Why did you wait so long? You can't score if you don't shoot. I see it on our PK a lot. Other teams pass, pass, pass, pass, and then screw up. Sometimes it seems we try to force the puck into the net. There are times when they don't shoot outside of 4 feet. Like they have to stuff it in the net. So, if you have a shot...shoot, if not pass it to the next guy. It's my take. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but just my .05 after inflation. |

| Have I yelled shoot already?......yes! it's usually when we are down by a goal or two, on a power play with about 1:15 seconds left, 8-10 minutes left in the game and I just watched passes 12-13-14-and 15 respectfully and pass 16 results in the puck bouncing over a stick at the blueline. At this point we don't get points for playing keep away, nor are there style points awarded for pretty goals, this isn't the X GAMES. It would seem that the Clones, historically want it to look pretty. I just want the job done. I'm not interested in taking a shot without a shooting lane and creating odd man rushes but as Barry Melrose says "GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU GO TO THE NET" |

hrc, you did bring something up that has been festering with me for, well, let's just say it's always pissed me off. this is no way directed towards you hrc (while we may not always see eye to eye, you know the game and present your points in a well thought out manner), i'm sick and tired or hearing people yell "shoot, shoot, shoot" constantly on the PP or any other time for that matter. then when a player does shoot while a person is yelling "shoot!" and the shot hits a defending players shin, rebounds, and creates an odd man rush, the person who yelled "shoot" then yells "what the hell, why'd you shoot that?" i get frustrated with our PP, but i understand the concept that shooting the puck when there is no shooting lane is pointless. so, too all the people out there that constantly yell "shoot" please take some time to comprehend what i just said and if you feel the urge to continue to yell "shoot" please refrain from yelling anything else when a player takes a shot and it gets blocked by the defender standing 4ft away...he did shoot after all and that was what you were asking for......
rant over
My "shoot" deal is mainly confined to the odd man rushes-mostly 2 on 1's. The player with the puck will slow down-which allows the defender and goalie to take his angle away-and then make a pass which, even if it is accurate, won't give the other offensive player a very good chance. Most of the time the pass doesn't even make the connection. Eghoetz had a stretch of 5 or 6 two-on-ones in a row toward the end of the season where NO shots were taken. That is simply ridiculous. And he heard it from me. And he'll hear it again.
The fact is that most ECHL players simply suck at two-on-ones. Most would be far better off to ALWAYS use the man without the puck as a decoy and take the shot himself. Kilpatrick, Sproat and Van Guilder are exceptions to this on the Cyclones. They seem to have a clue as to what to do in this situation. Most of the rest don't. Syro gets a pass as his lack of speed allows for a 2 on1 about as often as a complete lunar eclipse occurs
It also drives me nuts when a player is in the slot area and doesn't do anything quickly. By the time he does something, any shot of his will get blocked and whatever passing opportunity he may have had will have vanished.
I'm 100% with you on the "shoot shoot" during the PP. The main advantage of the power play is that there is a free man (or should be) due to the very nature of a power play. The job of the PP is to isloate someone who will have a very high percentage scoring opportunity. Especially on 5 on 3's. It can often take a large number of passes before this happens-and sometime it doesn't. Most of the people who are screaming for the shot are novice fans or haven't thoroughly examined what the real advantage of a Power Play is.
Now when the Cyclones start acting like their one of the great Russian teams and don't shoot for 1 minute of PP time looking for the perfect shot, then I go nuts as well . |
