After seeing SC in person they have a pretty good team. Their 4 goals weren't cheap, they worked hard and made things work. Their passing on the powerplay is very good, certainly the best we have seen this year.
The Cyclones played with a passion in the last of the second and for most of the third. The goals we scored were what Coach Weber would call "greasy". We simply aren't getting the bounces we need to win these games. Three solid periods of passion would have won this game.
Boutin is an average goalie who gives up huge rebounds; it just seems like were on the wrong side of the crease when the puck squirts out the other way or we can't get our stick on the puck when the net is yawning open. Defensively the Stingrays are doing a great job blocking shots and clearing the aforementioned juicy rebounds.
Friday is a new game. Lets win that one first. |

They did look good and we had our usual over pass style 1st period. For us to win this series would take a major miracle. My hope is we can can come out Friday night and with some honest referee action, play a solid game and come out with a win.I put my trust in Nie for Friday and someone try to settle Ian down. His hits are way to agressive and just beg for a call. The same goes for the refs. How about some 1st and 2nd period trip calls against Carolina. We touch someone, the whistle blows. They spread a player on the ice-no call. |

There was a world of difference between tonight and games 1 & 2.
The Cyclones proved that they could skate with SC. They appeared to be hopelessly outclassed in Charleston in the skating category, but that wasn't the case tonight.
The 4:30 stretch in the 2nd period was our undoing. Quesnele made a horrific pass which led to SC goal #2. Goals 3 and 4 were of the type that it would have been nice for Lacasse to come up large on at least one of those.
I was extremely impressed with the play of Rank, McKenzie and Gerard Miller. Yes, that G. Miller! These three guys brought an immense amount of energy and intensity to the game. McKenzie is really developing into a top notch power forward. He is a runaway train and delivers huge hits. Miller's hit immediately before Cyclone goal #1 was a monster as well.
McKenzie's first penalty was for checking, I'd guess. He was gliding for quite a bit before he legally hammered his SC prey. Nissen showed no class/tact by opening the door to the penalty box and admonishing McKenzie after he merely engaged in the time-honored hockey tradition of slamming the penalty box door. It was a ridiculous call. As were a few of his other ticky tack interference calls. How SC was only whisted four times vs. our seven is absurd. Nissen called a game that was Sweeneyesque in its incompetence.
Where there is breath there is life and where there is life there is hope. No team in the 21 year history of the ECHL has ever overcome an 0-3 deficit to capture a playoff series. The probability of the Cyclones doing so is very slim. But, one still only has the eat the entire elephant one bite at a time. Hopefully the Cyclones can make ECHL history by doing so. They certainly had to prove to themselves tonight that they belonged on the same rink as SC and that they are very capable of beating them. That simply was not the case in Charleston.

I didn't get to previously see either of the first two games on B2, so this was the first time I had seen the Stingrays since the Conference Finals last year. What I had heard was pretty accurate. Their speed is flashy and passing is crisp. I'm willing to bet they had a pretty killer power play unit during the regular season.
Weber doing the Nie-for-Lacasse switch nearly worked like it did against Elmira ... just no cigar. Really thought it ended up being a great game. The SC goalie also had a very strong game. Not by any means blaming this game on the (new) referee, but the call on the clean MacKenzie hit was one of the worst I've ever seen. The Stingray should have at least been called for a dive since he made the call. He hit the ice covering his face but popped right up as if nothing happened as soon the play was whistled. And then there was the aforementioned phantom icing.
Winning four straight including the latter two in SC is going to be, well ... you know. But you never know. See y'all Friday. |

| On another note, was not expecting such a great crowd for a Wednesday game after so much time off. Despite the loss, hoping for 5K Friday. |

For the seven home playoff games the Cyclones are averaging 3362. this compares to a 3021 average for the first seven of last season. This is an increase of 11%. It is a 33% increase if one factors in the 20% ticket price increase.
Noteworthy. The Cyclones 3432 attendance last night compared to 1819 at AHL Worchester and 3360 at AHL Milwaukee for a game 7 in that series. |

After hearing the game on the radio last night with the Cyclones readio cast I was impressed with the way your team responded after going down 4-0. MOST teams would have packed it in at that point but your guys kept playing and once they got that first goal it was almost like they exploded and jumped out of thier shell. I when they made it 4-3 I was nervous and I figured it was going to be a game the Rays would regret losing.
I'm looking forward to possibly making the trip up on friday morning to catch game 4. Dont everyone shoot me if I come up to the queen city! |

To GBS, we sat near 5 of your South Carolina fans and they couldn't be any better fans. I'm not a fan of going on opposing team's fan sites for just the reason you see. Here in Cincinnati we have had problems with Dayton fans just trying to stir up trouble with posts.Your initial post was in good spirit, but like our goalie,we aren't in a mood to talk with the "enemy". This last post you made was good and we would love to see you for Friday AND Saturday night's game.I expect Nie to be in goal so maybe you can get him to sign it in person!Speaking for myself, please be careful on other fan's sites.Come up and SEE the 07-08 banner for the AMERICAN CONFERENCE CHAMPION and get a look at the Kelly Cup in person. If we can't win it again,I wouldn't mind keeping it in the East where it belongs. |

Bags,
I hosted a website when we had our Arena Football 2 team in charleston so I know how it can get with the "enemy". One of my best friends now is a guy who would come on and talk some trash etc. He hosted us when we came to Greensboro NC and we did the same for them here in Charleston. The rivalry was intense and on game week there were no plesentries exchanged, no phone calls etc, but after the game we's throw down some beer and wings and carry on. I did not come to your site to troll or instigate, I just wanted to share my experience and that was it. Like I said I'd be more than happy to host some of you guys next year (because I am hoping we dont need a game 6 this year) to include Ryan Nie. I'm sure he's a cool dude and like I told Justin Johnson its all in the spirit of the game and its not personal at all to me. Like I said If I can get out of my meetings on time friday and to the airport for my flight I will be in town for fridays game. I believe one of the Rays assistants is on the same flight. Either way If I come up I'll say hello to your fans and enjoy a great game regardless. Thanks for having the maturity to keep it civil and I extend my most sincere invitation to ANY cyclones fans on to hang out anytime you come to Charleston (this year or next.)
