Being that it was with a player on waivers, my guess is its like baseball where you can put a guy on waivers and if he clears, you are free to trade him to whoever you like. Granted this is only after the trade deadline (and if the player is claimed by a team, you can pull him back to your team w/o consequences), but im not certain about the rules surrounding trades in hockey. Rule 71 in the rule book (ECHL and NHL) is about illegal substitutions, so this has nothing to do with that.
He doesnt have enough games to quality as a veteran, so again not sure what the trading issue was but apparently he had to pass waivers to do it. |

Man, we can barely keep up with the Matt Robinson news this week, and today brought an update on the former Alaska Aces winger, who earlier this week was released by ECHL Johnstown and then picked up on waivers by ECHL Cincinnati.
Well, now Robbie's headed back to Johnstown, at least on paper. He was returned to the Chiefs "pursuant to Playing Rule 71(a),'' according to the league.
Pretty sure that means Robinson didn't pass his physical with Cincinnati. (That was the rule cited when Idaho defenseman Riley Weselowski was returned from Victoria to Idaho this season -- Weselowski failed his physical with Victoria). Not sure what's up with Robinson, but about a year ago he underwent major knee surgery.
In any event, Johnstown put Robinson on the three-day injured-reserve list today.
In other ex-Aces ECHL news, former Alaska enforcer Tim Spencer was sent down to Elmira from Binghamton of the American Hockey League. |
