Okay I thought that maybe with a new pretty arena that the walleye fans might be a little more civil. BUT NO!! The game we went to a couple of games ago the fans threw drinks all over our guys during the last minute of play and then listening to Hammer just a few minutes ago they were at it again. Binda even had to have the announcer warn the fans.
Does anybody else think that this is a little bit over the edge? I can see heckling the other team but throwing stuff, what are they grader schoolers? This is just beyond normal to me. I was thinking about making the trip again to see the boys play the walleye, but I think that I might think twice now.
So if you are lurking on this site Toledo fans, stop the throwing of drinks. It makes you look like a bunch of children who can't play nice.
Thanks all from mom. Night everyone |

Gnite, sleep tight, and thanks for the heads up. As I remember it from the old arena, there were civil fans who just mocked and did the usual fun stuff, and then there was a significant over-the-edge crowd. Must be the lake water, or industrial pollution or something. We were thinking of driving up for tomorrow afternoon's game, but I think I will spend the ticket and concession money in Cincinnati. |

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It's always a shame what a few "losers" can do for a team's image. We had our share with the super balls against Las Vegas and we heard about it the next season on a trip to a Wrangler's game. Same way we heard nothing but praise for the group that went out to Las Vegas for the finals. My two trips to Wheeling have been great fun. Indianapolis was always great and Dayton had their idiots, but for the most part I never felt threatened. Two places I always heard bad stories were Fort Wayne and Toledo. I'm probably in the minority but I would like a one row neutral zone between benches and penalty boxes. Bottom line to me is you don't have to be ugly and nasty to the other team's fans to prove you are a hockey fan. |

I've talked to some people and I'm hearing that Toledo's having a really though time right now with the new arena in terms of trying to figure out what kind of fanbase they're going to be. The natural progression with a new downtown arena is that you'd see a much more upscale crowd, which generally results in a less-loud crowd that is less into the game (go to a Grand Rapids Griffins game sometime and you'llsee what I mean -- 6,000-7,000 crowds that sound like about 1,500 people). Some of the Toledo die-hards are apparently trying to force the old Sports Arena atmosphere over to the new arena by any means necessary. So now you have part of the crowd which is fine for opposing fans (but is dead and probably sucks to play in front of), and then the other part of the crowd that's trying to create an atmosphere and intimidation that they're just plain not going to recreate in Lucas County Arena.
Give them a bit and they'll get it worked out. They're obviously not going to, as an organization, let fans do whatever they want and they'll bring the hammer down soon enough if need be, because from what I've heard the Toledo org people would actually like to get away from being one of the rowdier crowds in the league and make it a little more "family-friendly" (which may be fanbase suicide to be honest). |

I am all for the heckling and the loud fans. It's the outright disrespect for others that I have a problem with. We are loud and supportive in Cincy, but I would NEVER think about throwing anything at anyone. (except hats and teddy bears of course) |

Has the ECHL considered the penalty box for rude fans? LOL. I never got into the Mighty Ducks when they were at the Gardens. Why? No Heckling/taunting the goalie and other rules that kept me quiet. I only went to one Duck game and found out the rules. Once I realized how much fun I would have with the rules, I was miserable. Oh well, where are they now? In IL. BTW, I hate jerks that through beer bottles. I had a concussion thanks to a flying beer bottle at another sporting event. How can tossing a beer bottle fun at all? Seriously! |
