CINCINNATI The Cincinnati Cyclones handed the North Division leading Kalamazoo Wings a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Rookie Brett Robinson had a goal and an assist to pace the attack. Kalamazoo lost for the first time this season on the road in seven regulation time games (5-1-1).
The Cyclones raced to a 2-0 first period lead. Forward Dustin Sproat snapped off a shot from the high slot 6:03 into the stanza, as Brett Robinson had the assist. The lead extended when two seconds into a power play, Scott Reynolds took a long pass into the Kalamazoo end rocketed his sixth goal of the season just past the glove hand of goaltender Jeremy Duchesne. The shots favored Cincinnati, 15-13, in the opening frame.
Kalamazoo cut the deficit to 2-1 when tenth year veteran Ben Simon picked up his second goal of the campaign on the power play at 8:52, as Sal Perraulta and Tom Morrow had the assists. Mike McLean restored the two goal edge with his fourth score of the season at 18:30, as Brian O'Hanley had the helper on the score. McLean flicked a shot from the right wing side past Duchesne. The shots favored Cincinnati, 15-5, in the period.
The Cyclones scored the only goal of the third period at 13:30, when Brett Robinson collected his first pro goal. Robinson collected his own rebound and stuffed it past the right leg of Duchesne to close out the scoring. The Cyclones outshot Kalamazoo, 15-8, in the period and 45-26 for the game.
Jeremy Smith picked up his sixth win of the season and third straight triumph with a 25 save effort. Jeremy Duchesne dropped to 4-1 on the year with a 41 stop performance. Cincinnati was one for six on the power play, while the Wings were one for three with the extra attacker.
Cincinnati is now 8-7-1, while Kalamazoo is 11-3-1. The Cyclones host Kalamazoo in a rematch on Friday night (November 27) at 7:30pm. That game will be carried on 1530 Homer The Sports Animal, airing at 7pm and on the internet at www.cycloneshockey.com.
In other Cyclones news earlier in the day, former forward David Desharnais was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) from Hamilton (AHL). Desharnais played for Montreal tonight in the game at Pittsburgh. Desharnais becomes the second Cyclones player in as many nights to debut with the Canadiens in an NHL game. Last night, forward J.T. Wyman played against Columbus. A total of 422 ECHL players have appeared in NHL games in the 22 year history of the league.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. Selected Friday night games are carried on 1530-AM Homer, while all 72 regular season games can be heard on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com. The next game on 1530 Homer will come Friday night (November 27) when Kalamazoo visits the Cyclones at 7:30pm.

Wednesday's attendance of 3156 gives the Cyclones a total of 31,951 through 6 games-an average of 5325.
Last season, the Cyclones drew 31220 to their first FOURTEEN home games.
So, if the Cyclones average zero in their next EIGHT home games, they will still be ahead of last season's attendance pace.
Amazing. |

Great night all around. Great start to the evening with a much deserving first puck drop. Second at game time I saw maybe 1500 fans in the stands, but that sure wasn't the case by start of second period. Solid three periods of play and hope to see that effort from now on. Only two negatives- didn't get the fifth goal to get us pulled pork and the only goal we allowed was mainly on bad position choice by Jeremy Smith. With the skater coming at his right, you have to lock out the space between your body and the post.

It's the first game where the Wings really have missed some of their punch up front. They'd gotten by a couple games without them so far, but we knew it was going to come up eventually. Can't blame Duschesne though if he's stopping 41 shots, your guys just put too many chances on him.
Kzoo's Lloyd is apparently out now as well with injury of some sort and didn't play last game, so that's yet another offensive threat down. Kharin was due to come off IR but they've confirmed season-ending surgery for him (which is really too bad for the kid, the ECHL is his kind of pace and style).
The forwards the Wings have left are going to have to figure out a way to generate a bit more offense or else I suspect that tonight Cincy will easily come out with another similar win.
Also, I have an inkling that tonight's game is going to be much more physical and chippy. Tonight might be the night that Cincy fans start really hating Legault...
I'm assuming Smith will get the start in net tonight again for the Cyclones? |

Welcome (once again) to the league where you never know who is going to be on your team until the pre-game warm ups!
The injury bug seems to be pronounced at every level of hockey this year. Very strange.
Legault is nothing but an IHL reject who skates like a dump truck with a flat tire and couldn't score a goal if the puck were on the goal line and no one was within 10 feet of him. He shall be informed of such this evening if I'm there. LOL.
I hope Smith gets the call, but that's not a certainty. Some of the Cyclone faithful are ready to throw Mayer under the bus, but he's a contracted player (Montreal) and will get his fair share of starts. He's young and green so I look for improvement with him with every start. |

Legault, with all the call-ups and injuries this last week, finally got some good ice-time so that everyone could finally get a look at him. We in Kzoo have been reserving judgement because he'd barely played in the ECHL this season... but he was a healthy scratch on Sunday and to be blunt I think he's the first cut when some more guys come back. He can't keep up with the skating at this level, and guys that were signed as fill-ins like Peralta and Lange sure have made their marks. |
